इन आठ घड़ों को लेकर कर सकेंगे नर्क की सैर

एक बार कवि कालिदास बाजार में घूमने निकले। वहां उन्होंने एक स्त्री को एक घड़ा और कुछ कटोरियां लिए ग्रहकों के इंतजार में बैठे देखा। कालिदास यह देखकर परेशानी में पड़ गए।

वह उस स्त्री के पास गए। उन्होंने वहां जाकर पूछा कि बहिन तुम क्या बेचती हो। उस स्त्री ने कहा मैं पाप बेचती हूं। मैं स्वयं लोगों से कहती हूं कि मेरे पास पाप हैं, मर्जी हो तो ले लो। लोग रुचि से ले जाते हैं।

इस जबाव को सुनकर कालिदास उलझन में पढ़ गए। उन्होंने पूछा कि घड़े में कैसे पाप हो सकता है? स्त्री बोली, हां होता है, जरूर होता है। देखो , मेरे आठ घड़े में आठ पाप भरे हैं।

बुद्धिमान, पागलपन, लड़ाई-झगड़े, बेहोशी, विवेक का नाश, सदगुण का नाश, सुखों का अंत औ नर्क में ले जाने वाला दुष्कर्म।

और भी हैरानी में पड़ते हुए कालिदास ने पूछा, अरे बहिन। इतने सारे पाप बताती हैं आप, तो आखिर इन घड़ों में है क्या?

स्त्री बोली, शराब, वह शराब ही उन सभी पापों की जननी है। जो शराब पीता है, वह व्यक्ति इन आठ पापों का शिकार हो जाता है। कालिदास उस स्त्री की चतुराई को देखकर दंग रह गए।
