आत्मा भी करती है भोजन

प्रार्थना सभा के बाद एक वकील ने महात्मा गांधी से पूछा, ‘आप प्रार्थना में जितना समय व्यतीत करते हैं, अगर उतना ही समय देश सेवा में लगाया होता, तो अभी तक कितनी सेवा हो जाती?’

गांधी जी गंभीर हो गए और बोले, वकील साहब, आप भोजन करने में जितना समय बर्बाद करते हैं, ‘अगर वही समय कामकाज में लगाया होता तो अभी तक आपने अनेक अतिरिक्त मुकदमों की तैयारी कर ली होती।’

वकील चकित होकर बोला, ‘महात्मा जी अगर भोजन नहीं करूंगा तो मुकदमों की तैयारी कैसे करूंगा ?’ तब महात्मा गांधी बोले, ‘जैसे आप बिना भोजन के बिना मुकदमे की तैयारी नहीं कर सकते, वैसे ही मैं बिना प्रार्थना के देश की सेवा नहीं कर सकता।’ प्रार्थना मेरी आत्मा का भोजन है। इससे मेरी आत्मा को शक्ति मिलती है। जिससे कि मैं देश की सेवा कर सकूं।

After the prayer meeting, a lawyer asked Mahatma Gandhi, ‘How much time do you spend in prayer, if you had spent the same time serving the country, how much service would have been so far?’

Gandhiji became serious and said, “How much time wasted in eating food, if you had spent the same time working in the work place, you had already prepared many additional lawsuits.”

The lawyer said with astonishment, “If Mahatma does not eat food then how will I prepare for the lawsuits?” Then Mahatma Gandhi said, ‘Just as you can not prepare a case without food, so can not serve the country without praying.’ Prayer is the food of my soul. This gives strength to my soul. So that I can serve the country.
