‘मेहनत से कमाएं धन’

सदियों पहले यूनान में हेलाक नाम का एक सेठ रहता था। उसके पुत्र का नाम ‘चालाक’ और पुत्रवधू का नाम था ‘हेली’। हेलाक की पुत्रवधू धार्मकि प्रवृत्ति की थी। लेकिन हेलाक एक कुटिल व्यक्ति था। उसकी किराने की दुकान थी, वह अपने हर ग्राहक को ठग लेता।

इसलिए लोग उसे वंचक सेठ के नाम से बुलाने लगे। वह जितना धन कमाता वह जल्द ही खर्च हो जाता था। हेलाक की पुत्रवधू हमेशा इन बुरे कर्मों को छोड़ने की सलाह देती थी। लेकिन सेठ ने कभी उसकी बात नहीं मानी।

पुत्रवधू का कहना था कि जब रोटी, कपड़ा,मकान और पर्याप्त धन सब कुछ है तो हमें इस तरह से लोगों को परेशान करने की क्या जरूरत। यह बात सेठ को अजीब लगी लेकिन उसने सोचा एक बार पुत्रवधू की बात को परख कर देखा जाए।

तब उस सेठ ने बिना धोखाधड़ी से कमाए धन की एक सोने की वस्तु को पोटली में बांधकर नदी में फेंक दिया। उसने उस पोटली में अपने घर का पता भी लिख दिया। उस पोटली को एक मगरमच्छ ने खा लिया। कुछ दिनों बाद वह मगरमच्छ एक मछुआरे के जाल में फंस गया।

जब मछुआरे ने मगरमच्छ का पेट चीरा तो वह पोटली निकली। पोटली में सेठ का पता और थोड़ा बहुत सोना था। वह मछुआरे पते के अनुसार उस सेठ के पास पहुंचा। सेठ उस धन को पाकर बहुत खुश हुआ। और उस दिन से उसने बुरे कर्मों को हमेशा के लिए छोड़ा दिया।
