कबीर की सादगी देख उनके कुछ शिष्य दुःखी रहते थे। एक दिन साहस करते हुए एक शिष्य बोला, ‘गुरुवर आप सादगी से क्यों रहते हैं? आप एक सिद्ध पुरुष हैं। ऐसे में आपका कपड़ा बुनना भी अजीब है।’

कबीर थोड़ा मुस्कुराए, और फिर बोले, पहले में अपना पेट पालने के लिए बुनता था, लेकिन अब में सभी के अंदर समाए ईश्वर के तन ढकने के लिए और अपना मनोयोग साधने के लिए बुनता हूं। यानी हर व्यक्ति का दृष्टिकोण अलग-अलग होता है। शिष्य गुरु की बात की गहराई को समझ गए।
