क्यों कहलाते हैं पांचरुपी हनुमान

जब राम और रावण की सेना के मध्य भयंकर युद्ध चल रहा था और रावण अपने पराजय के समीप था तब इस समस्या से उबरने के लिए उसने अपने मायावी भाई अहिरावण को याद किया जो मां भवानी का परम भक्त होने के साथ- साथ तंत्र – मंत्र का बड़ा ज्ञाता था। उसने अपने माया के दम पर भगवान राम की सारी सेना को निद्रा में डाल दिया तथा राम एवं लक्ष्मण का अपरहण कर, उन्हें पाताल लोक ले गया।

कुछ घंटे बाद जब माया का प्रभाव कम हुआ, तब विभिषण ने यह पहचान लिया कि यह कार्य अहिरावण का है और उसने हनुमानजी को श्री राम और लक्ष्मण की सहायता करने के लिए पाताल लोक जाने को कहा। पाताल लोक के द्वार पर उन्हें उनका पुत्र मकरध्वज मिला और युद्ध में उसे हराने के बाद हनुमान बंधक श्री राम और लक्ष्मण से मिले। हनुमान को पाताल लोक में पांच दीपक, पांच जगह पर, पांच दिशाओं में मिले जिसे अहिरावण ने मां भवानी के लिए जलाए थे।

इन पांचों दीपक को एक साथ बुझाने पर अहिरावन का वध हो जाएगा, उन पांच दीपक को बुझानें और अहिरावण का वध करने के लिए हनुमान जी ने पंचमुखी रूप धारण किया। उत्तर दिशा में वराह मुख, दक्षिण दिशा में नरसिंह मुख, पश्चिम में गरुड़ मुख, आकाश की तरफ हयग्रीव मुख एवं पूर्व दिशा में हनुमान मुख। इस रूप को धरकर उन्होंने वे पांचों दीप बुझाएं तथा अहिरावण का वध कर श्री राम और लक्ष्मण को उस से मुक्त किया।

पितामह भीष्म के जीवन का एक ही पाप था कि उन्होंने समय पर क्रोध नहीं किया…(द्रोपदी चीर हरण के समय)
और
जटायु के जीवन का एक ही पुण्य था कि उसने समय पर क्रोध किया…..(माता सीता के हरण के समय।)

समय आने पर मृत्यु दोनों की हुई किन्तु…

परिणामस्वरुप एक को बाणों की शैय्या मिली और एक को श्री राम की गोद
वेद कहता है– “क्रोध भी तब पुण्य बन जाता है जब वह धर्म और मर्यादा के लिए किया जाए और सहनशीलता भी तब पाप बन जाती है जब वह धर्म और मर्यादा को बचा ना पाये
