सर्व कामनाओं की पूर्ति हेतु रविवार का व्रत बहुत ही श्रेष्ठ माना जाता है इस व्रत की विधि इस प्रकार है|

प्रातकाल स्नान अधि से निर्वर्थ हो स्वच्छ वस्त्र धारण करे संचित होकर परमात्मा का स्नान करें भोजन एक समय ही करें भोजन तथा फलाहार सूर्य के प्रकाश रहते ही कर लेना चाहिए यदि निराहार रहने पर सूर्य छिप जाए तो दूसरे दिन सूर्य उदय हो जाने पर अज्ञा देने के बाद ही
भोजन करें व्रत अंत में सूर्य की कथा सुननी चाहिए व्रत के दिन नमकीन तेल युक्त भोजन कदापि ग्रहण न करें इस व्रत के करने से मान सम्मान बढ़ता है| तथा शत्रुओं का अच्छा होता है आंख के पीड़ा के अतिरिक्त अन्य सब पीड़ा भी इससे दूर हो जाती हैं तो चलिए शुरू करते हैं|रविवार व्रत की कथा तो दोस्तों ये कथा शुरू करने से पहले एक बार सूर्य भगवान की जय बोल दीजिए

एक बार एक बुढ़िया थी उसका नियम था प्रति रविवार को सबेरे ही स्नान आदि कर पड़ोसन की गाय के गोबर से घर को लीप कर फिर भोजन तैयार कर भगवान को भोग लगाकर स्वयं भोजन करती थी ऐसा व्रत करने से उसका घर धंन धान एवं आनंद से पूरण था इस तरह कुछ दिन बीत जाने पर उसके पड़ोसन विचार करने लगी यह वृद्धा सर्बद्धा मेरी गाय का गोबर लेकर जाती है| इसलिए वह अपनी गाय को घर के भीतर बांधने लगी बुड़िया को गोबर ना मिलने से रविवार के दिन वह अपने घर को ना लिप सके इसलिए उसने ना तो भोजन बनायाऔर ना भगवान को भोग लगाया तथा स्वयं भी उसने भोजन नहीं किया इस प्रकार उसने निराहार व्रत किया रात हो गई और वह भूखी ही सो गई रात में भगवान ने उसे स्वप्न दिया और भोजन ना बनाने और भोग ना लगने का कारण पूछा वृद्धा ने गोबर ना मिलने का कारण बताया तब भगवान ने कहा माता हम तुमको ऐसी ही कह देते हैं जिससे सभी इच्छाएं पूर्ण होती हैं तो क्योंकि तुम हमेशा रविवार को गाय के गोबर से घर लिप कर भोजन बना कर मेरा भोग लगा कर खुद भोजन करती हो इससे मैं खुश होकर तुम को यह वरदान देता हूं तथा अंत समय में मोक्ष देता हू स्वप्न में ऐसा वरदान देकर भगवान अंतर्धान हो गए और जब वृद्धा की आंख खुली तो वह देखती है|
आंगन में एक अति सुंदर गाय और बछड़ा बंधे हुए हैं वह गाय और बछड़े को देखकर अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुई और उनको घर के बाहर बांध दिया वही खाने का चारा डाल दिया जब उसके पड़ोसन ने बुढ़िया के घर के बाहर एक अति सुंदर गाय और बछड़े को देखा तो देश के कारण उसका हृदय जल उठा तथा जब उसने देखा की गाय सोने का गोबर किया हैं तो वह उस गाय का गोबर ले गई और अपने गाय का गोबर उस जगह पर रख गई वह नित्य प्रति ऐसा करती रही और सीधी सीधी बुढ़िया को इसकी खबर नहीं होने दी अब सर्वव्यापी ईश्वर ने सोचा कि चालक पड़ोसन के कर्म से बुड़िया ठगी जा रही है|

भगवान ने संध्या के समय अपनी माया से बड़ी जोर की आंधी चला दी बुढ़िया ने अंधेरी की बह से अपनी गाय को घर के भीतर बांध लिया प्रातः काल उठकर जब वृद्धा ने देखा की गाय ने सोने का गोबर दिया है तो उसके आश्चर्य की सीमा न रही वह प्रतिदिन गाय को घर के भीतर बांधने लग गई उधर पड़ोसन ने देखा कि बुड़िया गाय को घर के भीतर बांधने लगी है और उसके सोने का गोबर उठाने का दाव नहीं चलता तो वह ईशा से जल उठी कुछ उपाय ना देख उसने देश के राजा की सभा में जाकर कहा महाराज मेरे पड़ोस में एक वृद्धा के पास ऐसी गाय है| जैसे राजाओं की योग्य है|

वह रोज सोने का गोबर देती है| आप उस सोने से प्रजा का पालन कीजिए वृद्धा इतने सोने का क्या करेगी राजा ने यह बात सुन अपने दोस्तों को वृद्धा के घर से गाय लाने की आज्ञा दी वृद्धा भगवान को भोग लगा भोजन ग्रहण करने ही जा रही थी| कि राजा के कर्मचारी गाय खोल कर ले गए वृद्धा काफी रोई चिल्लाई किंतु कर्मचारियों के समक्ष कोई क्या कहता उस दिन वृद्धा गाय के वियोग में भोजन ना खा सकें और रात भर रो-रो कर ईश्वर से उन्हें पाने के लिए प्रार्थना करती रही

उधर राजा गाय को देखकर बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ लेकिन सुबह जैसे ही वे उठा सारा महल गोबर से भरा दिखाई देने लगा राजा यह देखकर घबरा गया भगवान ने रात में राजा से सपने में कहा राजा गाय वृद्धा को लौटाने में ही तेरा भला है| उसके रविवार के व्रत से प्रसन्न होकर मैंने उसे गाय दी थी प्रता होते ही राजा ने वृद्धा को बुलाकर बहुत से धन के साथ सम्मानित सही गाय और बछड़ा लुटा दिया उसके पड़ोसन को बुलाकर उचित दंड दिया इतना करने के बाद राजा के महल से गंदगी दूर हो गई| उसी दिन से राजा ने नगर वासियों को आदेश दिया कि राज की अपनी समस्त मनोकामना की पूर्ति के लिए के लिए रविवार को व्रत करो व्रत करने से नगर के लोग सुखी
जीवन व्यतीत करने लगे कोई भी बीमारी तथा प्रकृति का प्रकोप नगर पर नहीं होता था| सारी प्रजा सुख से रहने लगी
