एक राजा जो था कंगाल

एक महात्मा रास्ते से कहीं जा रहे थे। वह फटे हुए मैले कपड़े पहने हुए थे। सामने से आ रहे राजा के सिपाही बोले, रास्ते से हट जाओ। राजा साहब आ रहे हैं।

इतने में राजा साहब आ गए। महात्मा आगे बढ़े और राजा से पूछ बैठे, राजा जिसे चाहे अपने देश से निकाल सकता है, ऐसा है क्या ? तब तो बहुत अच्छा है… महात्मा ने आगे कहा कि, मुझे रात को मच्छर काटते हैं, सांप का भय सताता है। राजाजी आप हुक्म दो कि हमारे देश में सांप नहीं रहें।

तब राजा ने कहा कि, हम इनको नहीं निकाल सकते, आप हमारे महल में रह सकते हैं। राजा के आमंत्रण पर महात्मा जी एक दिन महल गए। देखा कि महल के दरवाजे पर बंदूकधारी पहरेदार तैनात हैं।

वह मन ही मन सोचने लगे कि यह महल है या तहखाना। तब राजा ने महात्मा को झरोखे से देख लिया। महात्मा जी का स्वागत सत्कार किया गया।

शाम के समय राजा, महात्माजी के नजदीक के कमरे में खड़े होकर ईश्वर से प्रार्थना करने लगा कि, हे भगवान, मुझे धन दो, आयु दो, राज्य बढ़ाओ।

महात्मा ने सुन लिया। महात्मा बोले, हमने तो समझा था, आप राजा हो, धनी होगे ही। तुम तो कंगाल निकले, ऐसे में हम तेरे पास रहकर क्या करेंगे। जिससे तुम मांगते हो, जरूरत हुई तो हम भी उसी से मांग लेंगे।

Mahatma listened. Mahatma said, we had understood that, you become a king, you will be rich. You have become poor, so what will we do with you? If you do, then you will demand it.
