बापू की असाधारण और अक्षम्य गलती

एक दिन मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी (बापू) शाम की प्रार्थना सभा में बोलते-बोलते बहुत परेशान हो गए। उन्होंने कहा, जो गलती मुझसे हुई है, वह असाधारण और अक्षम्य है। कई बरस पहले मुझे इसका पता लगा, पर तभी मैंने इस ओर ध्यान नहीं दिया। इस कारण से कई वर्ष नष्ट हो गए।

मुझसे बहुत बड़ा पाप हो गया है। दरिद्रनारायण की सेवा का जिसने व्रत ले रखा हो, उससे इस प्रकार की लापरवाही किसी तरह भी नहीं होनी चाहिए। अगर उस दिन ही मैंने यह गलती सुधार ली होती, तो इन बीते सालों में दरिद्रनारायण की जो क्षति हुई है, वह न हो पाती।

सभी लोग हैरान होकर बापू के व्यथित स्वर और आत्मग्लानि से भरे हुए शब्दों को सुन रहे थे। लोगों के मन में यह प्रश्न स्वाभाविक था कि कौन-सी वह बात है जिसके लिए बापू को इतनी लम्बी और कठोर भूमिका बांधनी पड़ रही है। बापू ने कौन-सा ऐसा काम कर डाला कि उसे वे पाप की संज्ञा दे रहे हैं।

बापू ने अपना पाप बताया। लोग रोज जो दातून इस्तेमाल करके फेंक देते हैं, उनको भी काम में लाया जा सकता है। यह विचार कुछ साल पहले उनके मन में आया था। पर उस विचार को कार्य रूप में अमल करना वे भूल गए थे। यह उनकी दृष्टि में अक्षम्य अपराध था।

उस दिन अचानक उनका ध्यान उस ओर गया। बापू साधारण से साधारण कामों में यह देखते थे कि किस तरह से कम से कम खर्च हो। कैसे अधिक से अधिक बचत हो। ताकि दरिद्र ग्रामवासी उस आदर्श को अपना कर अपनी गरीबी का बोझ कुछ कम कर सकें।

उस दिन उन्होंने इस्तेमाल की गई दातून का सदुपयोग करने का आदेश आश्रमवासियों को दिया। उन्होंने बताया कि इस्तेमाल की हुई दातून को धोकर साफ़ कर लिया जाय और फिर उसे धूप में सुखा कर रख दिया जाए। इस तरह सुखाई हुई दातून ईंधन के काम आ सकती हैं।

बापू ने कुछ लोगों के चेहरे पर शंका मिश्रित आश्चर्य को पढ़ लिया। शंका का समाधान करते हुए उन्होंने कहा, यह सोचना गलत है कि फेंकी हुई दातून का ईंधन नहीं होगा। यहां के कुछ दिन के ही प्रवास में मेरे और दल के चार-पांच लोगों ने अपनी-अपनी दातूनों को सुखा कर जितना ईंधन इकट्ठा किया था, उसी से मेरे लिए स्नान के लिए एक लोटा पानी गरम हो गया।

अब यदि यहां रहने वाले सभी भाई-बहन साल भर की दातून इकट्ठा कर लें तो कुछ दिनों की रसोई पकाने लायक ईंधन तो इकट्ठा हो ही जाएगा और अगर साल में एक दिन के ईंधन की भी इस तरह से बचत हो जाए तो क्या वह कुछ भी नहीं?

बापू ने आगे कहा, गांव वालों की गरीबी के बोझ को थोड़ा-थोड़ा भी अगर कम किया जाय, बेकार समझ कर फेंक दी जाने वाली चीज़ों का भी अगर सोच-समझ कर कुछ न कुछ उपयोग निकाला जाय, तो धीरे-धीरे उनका बोझ बहुत कम हो जाएगा, और वे कूड़े को भी सोने में बदलने लगेंगे।

उसी दिन से कुएं के पास एक बाल्टी टांग दी गई और उसमें सभी लोग अपनी-अपनी इस्तेमाल की गई दातून अच्छी तरह धोकर डाल देते। उसे धूप में सुखा दिया जाता।

Bapu said his sin Everyday people who throw them using the teeth, they can also be brought to work. This idea came to mind some years ago. But they forgot to implement that idea in the work form. It was inexcusable crime in their view.

On that day suddenly his attention went towards him. Bapu used to see in ordinary ordinary ways how to spend the least. How to get maximum savings. So that poor people can reduce their poverty burden by adopting that ideal.

On that day, he ordered the use of the donated used to the ashram dwellers. He told that the used granules should be washed and cleaned and then kept dry in the sun. This kind of dried fuel can be used for fuel.

Bapu read the mixed surprise of doubt on some people’s faces. While addressing the doubts, he said, it is wrong to think that the tossed donuts will not be fueled. In a few days of my stay, four and five people of the party had gathered a lot of fuel by drying their own teeth, and a lot of water was heated for bathing.

Now if all the brothers and sisters living here gather in a year’s time, then a few days of cooking fuel will be gathered and if one day fuel is saved in such a way, will it be anything No?

Bapu further said, if the burden of the poor of the villagers is reduced to a little bit, even if things are thought to be useless, even if some use is taken out, then gradually their burden is very much Will decrease, and they will start changing the garbage to sleep.

From that day, a bucket hanging was given near the well and everyone in it washed his own well-used teeth. It was dried in the sun.
