ऐसा करेंगे तो होंगे चमत्कार

भारत के पहले प्रधानमंत्री पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू एक समारोह में शिरकत करने के लिए गए। यह कार्यक्रम लंदन में होने वाला था। जब वे वहां पहुंचे तो वहां कई नेताओं से भेंट के दौरान एक क्षण ऐसा भी आया, जब विन्सटन चर्चिल और नेहरू आमने-सामने हुए।

हालांकि चर्चिल नेहरूजी की सदैव ही आलोचना किया करते थे लेकिन उस समारोह में दोनों नेता खुलकर मिले और कई बातें कीं। दोनों ने आपस में पुरानी यादें भी ताजा कीं।

बातों ही बातों में चर्चिल ने नेहरूजी से पूछा, ‘यदि आप बुरा न मानें तो एक प्रश्न पूछना चाहता हूं।’ नेहरूजी की सहमति मिलने पर चर्चिल बोले, ‘आप अंग्रेजों की जेल में कितने वर्ष तक रहे ?

नेहरूजी ने उत्तर दिया यही कोई 10 वर्ष। यह सुनकर चर्चिल बोले, ‘हमने आपके प्रति एक घृणित व्यवहार किया, उसकी एवज में आपको हमसे नफरत करनी चाहिए।’ नेहरूजी ने कहा, ‘ऐसी कोई खास बात नहीं है। दरअसल हमने ऐसे नेता के अधीन रहकर कार्य किया है जिससे हमें दो बातें सीखने को मिली हैं।’

चर्चिल ने पूछा, ‘वह बातें क्या हैं।’ नेहरूजी बोले, ‘पहली बात तो यह है कि आत्मनिर्भर रहो यानी किसी से मत डरो।’ दूसरी बात यह है, ‘किसी को नफरत की निगाह से मत देखो।’ यही कारण है कि तब न तो हम आपसे डरते थे और न अब आपसे नफरत करते हैं।

Nehruji replied that this is only 10 years. After listening to this, Churchill said, ‘We behaved in a disgusting manner towards you, for that you should hate us.’ Nehruji said, “There is no such thing special. Actually, we have been working under a leader who has got us to learn two things.

Churchill asked, ‘what are those things.’ Nehruji said, ‘The first thing is that be self-sufficient, that is, do not be afraid of anyone.’ The second thing is, ‘Do not look at anyone with hatred.’ This is the reason why neither we were afraid of you nor do you hate me now.
