हर साल यहां अम्बुबाची मेला के दौरान पास में स्थित ब्रह्मपुत्र का पानी तीन दिन के लिए लाल हो जाता है। पानी का यह लाल रंग कामाख्या देवी के मासिक धर्म के कारण होता है। फिर तीन दिन बाद दर्शन के लिए यहां भक्तों की भीड़ मंदिर में उमड़ पड़ती है। आपको बता दें की मंदिर में भक्तों को बहुत ही अजीबो गरीब प्रसाद दिया जाता है। दूसरे शक्तिपीठों की अपेक्षा कामाख्या देवी मंदिर में प्रसाद के रूप में लाल रंग का गीला कपड़ा दिया जाता है। कहा जाता है कि जब मां को तीन दिन का रजस्वला होता है, तो सफेद रंग का कपडा मंदिर के अंदर बिछा दिया जाता है। तीन दिन बाद जब मंदिर के दरवाजे खोले जाते हैं, तब वह वस्त्र माता के रज से लाल रंग से भीगा होता है। इस कपड़ें को अम्बुवाची वस्त्र कहते है। इसे ही भक्तों को प्रसाद के रूप में दिया जाता है।

Unlike other Shaktipeeths, red colored wet cloth is given as prasad in Kamakhya Devi temple. It is said that when the mother is menstruating for three days, a white colored cloth is spread inside the temple. After three days, when the doors of the temple are opened, then the cloth is soaked in red color from the raj of the mother. This cloth is called Ambuvachi cloth. This is given to the devotees as prasad.
