लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक की विनोदप्रियता

लोकमान्य बाल गंगाधर तिलक धुन के पक्के थे। उनकी एक और विशेषता उनकी विनोदप्रियता थी। कठिन से कठिन परिस्थितियों में भी वह मनोविनोद करते हुए समस्या को सुलझा लेते थे।

वह ‘केसरी’ नाम का मराठी दैनिक अखबार निकालते थे, जिसके तीखे तेवर से अंग्रेज सरकार परेशान रहती थी। वह छोटी-छोटी बात को लेकर उन पर मुकदमा कर देती थी।

एक बार हाईकोर्ट में उन पर एक मुकदमा चल रहा था। तिलक की ओर से एक सीनियर वकील पैरवी कर रहे थे। संयोगवश उस दिन उनको अदालत आने में विलंब हो गया।

जब वह काफी देर तक नहीं आए तो वहां मौजूद एक युवा वकील अपने एक अन्य मित्र वकील को लेकर उनके समीप गया और बोला, ‘सर, लगता है आपके वकील साहब को जरूरी काम आ गया है। तभी तो उन्हें आने में देर हो रही है। आप कहें तो हम दोनों उनके स्थान पर आपकी सहायता करने के लिए तैयार हैं।’

तिलक बोले, ‘अच्छा तो आप मेरे सीनियर वकील की जगह लेने के लिए बिल्कुल तैयार हैं।’ युवा वकील बोला, ‘जी सर, आप हमें अवसर तो दीजिए।’ तिलक मुस्करा कर बोले, ‘मेरे वकील आपसे लगभग दोगुनी उम्र के होंगे।’

युवा वकील बोला, ‘कोई बात नहीं सर। हम बहुत अच्छा काम करेंगे।’ तिलक ने कहा, ‘बीस-बाईस वर्ष की किसी कन्या के लिए वर के स्थान पर क्या दस-बारह वर्ष के दो किशोर चल सकते हैं?’ तिलक की बात सुनकर वहां उपस्थित सभी लोग हंस पड़े।

Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak was sure of a tune. His other specialty was his comedy. Even in difficult situations, he used to relax and solve the problem.

He used to take the Marathi daily newspaper ‘Kesari’, which was troubled by the English government. He used to sue them about small things.

Once upon a time he was running a lawsuit in the High Court. A senior lawyer was advocating Tilak’s behalf. Coincidentally, on that day, he was delayed in court.

When he did not come for a long time, a young lawyer present there came to him with a friend of his friend and said, ‘Sir, it seems that your lawyer has got the necessary work. That is why they are late in coming. You say we both are ready to help you at their place. ‘

Tilak said, ‘Well you are ready to take my senior lawyer’s place.’ The young lawyer said, ‘Sir, you give us an opportunity.’ Tilak smiled, ‘My lawyer will be almost twice as old as you.’

The young lawyer said, ‘no matter sir. We will do a great job. ‘ Tilak said, “Can a teenager of ten to twelve years walk in place of a bride for twenty-twenty-two years?” Listening to Tilak, all the people present there laugh.
