गुरु द्रौण का पुत्र मोह

द्रौण को अपने पुत्र अश्वत्थामा से बहुत प्यार था। शिक्षा में भी अन्य छात्रों से भेदभाव करते थे। जब उन्हें सभी कौरव और पांडव राजकुमारों को चक्रव्यूह की रचना और उसे तोडऩे के तरीके सिखाने थे, उन्होंने शर्त रखी की जो राजकुमार नदी से घड़ा भरकर सबसे पहले पहुंचेगा, उसे ही चक्रव्यूह की रचना सिखाई जाएगी। सभी राजकुमारों को बड़े घड़े दिए जाते लेकिन अश्वत्थामा को छोटा घड़ा देते ताकि वो जल्दी से भरकर पहुंच सके। सिर्फ अर्जुन ही ये बात समझ पाये और अर्जुन भी जल्दी ही घड़ा भरकर पहुंच जाते।
जब ब्रह्मास्त्र का उपयोग करने की बारी आई तो भी द्रौणाचार्य के पास दो ही लोग पहुंचे। अर्जुन और अश्वत्थामा। अश्वत्थामा ने पूरे मन से इसकी विधि नहीं सीखी। ब्रह्मास्त्र चलाना तो सीख लिया लेकिन लौटाने की विधि नहीं सीखी। उसने सोचा गुरु तो मेरे पिता ही हैं। कभी भी सीख सकता हूं। द्रौणाचार्य ने भी इस पर ध्यान नहीं दिया। लेकिन इसका खामियाजा उसे भुगतना पड़ा। जब महाभारत युद्ध के बाद अर्जुन और अश्वत्थामा ने एक-दूसरे पर ब्रह्मास्त्र चलाया। वेद व्यास के कहने पर अर्जुन ने तो अपना अस्त्र लौटा लिया लेकिन अश्वत्थामा ने नहीं लौटाया क्योंकि उसे इसकी विधि नहीं पता थी। जिस
अगर द्रौणाचार्य अपने पुत्र मोह पर नियंत्रण रखकर उसे शिक्षा देते, उसके और अन्य राजकुमारों के बीच भेदभाव नहीं करते तो शायद अश्वत्थामा को कभी इस तरह सजा नहीं भुगतनी पड़ती।के कारण उसे शाप मिला। उसकी मणि निकाल ली गई और कलयुग के अंत तक उसे धरती पर भटकने के लिए छोड़ दिया गया।
