मोह-लोभ का जाल

अवधूत दत्तात्रेय एक दिन नदी के किनारे टहल रहे थे । उन्होंने देखा कि एक मछुआरा बिलकुल नदी के तट पर बैठा लोहे के बने छोटे से काँटे पर मांस का टुकड़ा लगा रहा है।

दत्तात्रेय ने उससे इसका कारण पूछा, तो वह बोला, ‘मैं काँटे में मांस का टुकड़ा लगाकर उसे पानी में छोडूँगा । मांस के लालच में मछली काँटे पर झपटेगी। इस क्रम में उसका मुँह लोहे के काँटे से बँध जाएगा, फिर मैं उसे पकड़ लूँगा।”

दत्तात्रेयजी ने उससे सवाल पूछा, ‘भैया, यदि मछली ने मांस का टुकड़ा निगलकर काँटा उगल दिया, तो वह कैसे फँसेगी?’ मछुआरे ने जवाब दिया, ‘बाबा, क्या तुम इतना भी नहीं जानते कि विषयों को निगलना सरल है, पर उगलना अत्यंत कठिन।’

दत्तात्रेयजी को शास्त्र वचन याद आ गया कि प्राणी जब एक बार लोभ-लालच, मोह-ममता आदि में फँस जाता है, तो फिर दुःख-पर- दुःख भोगने को मजबूर हो जाता है।

वह सांसारिक सुखों को दुःख का कारण जान लेने के बावजूद उनसे मुक्ति का रास्ता नहीं खोज पाता और अंत में विषय-भोग की तृष्णा में उसका जीवन बेकार चला जाता है।

तीर्थंकर महावीर ने कहा था, ‘जो विषय-भोगों में एक बार रम जाता है, उन्हें त्यागना उसके लिए दूभर हो जाता है। अतः यह जान लेना चाहिए कि सांसारिक सुखों का आकर्षण असल में दुःख का कारण है।

भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण गीता में कहते हैं, ‘सांसारिक मोह के कारण ही मनुष्य क्या करूँ, क्या न करूँ की दुविधा में फँसकर कर्तव्य से विमुख हो जाता है। इसलिए सांसारिक सुखों के वशीभूत कदापि नहीं होना चाहिए।’

English Translation

Avadhoot Dattatreya was walking one day on the bank of the river. He saw a fisherman sitting right on the bank of the river putting a piece of meat on a small iron fork.

Dattatreya asked him the reason for this, so he said, ‘I will put a piece of meat in a fork and leave it in the water. In the greed of meat, the fish will pounce on the fork. In this sequence his mouth will be tied with an iron hook, then I will catch him.”

Dattatreyaji asked him the question, ‘Brother, if the fish swallowed a piece of meat and spewed the thorn, how would it get caught?’ The fisherman replied, ‘Baba, don’t you even know that it is easy to swallow things, but it is very difficult to swallow. Difficult.’

Dattatreya ji remembered the scripture that once a creature gets entangled in greed-greed, attachment-love etc., then he is forced to suffer sorrow-but-sorrow.

Even after knowing the worldly pleasures as the cause of sorrow, he is unable to find a way to get rid of them and in the end his life goes in vain in the craving for material enjoyment.

Tirthankara Mahavir had said, ‘Whoever gets engrossed in the pleasures once, it becomes difficult for him to renounce them. Therefore, it should be known that the attraction of worldly pleasures is actually the cause of unhappiness.

Lord Sri Krishna says in the Gita, ‘It is because of worldly attachment that a man gets deviated from duty by getting caught in the dilemma of what to do and what not to do. Therefore one should never be subject to worldly pleasures.’
