बात उस समय की है जब जापान में दो राज्यों के बीच युद्ध चल रहा था। युद्ध अपने चरम पर था। आने वाला कल युद्ध का आखिरी दिन था। ऐसे कठिन समय में जापान के एक राज्य के सेनापति ने अपनी सेना के समस्त सरदारों के साथ बैठक की। बैठक में पक्ष और विपक्ष की शक्ति को लेकर चर्चा हुई।

शत्रु की सेना संख्या, हथियार और अपनी क्षमता सहित हर तरह से उन पर हावी थी। बैठक करने वाले राज्य के सरदारों का आत्मविश्वास डगमगाने लगा। लेकिन सेनापति पीछे नहीं हटना चाहता था। तब उसने सैनिकों से कहा, ‘निर्णय सुबह होगा।’

सुबह हुई, सेना  चलते-चलते एक मंदिर के सामने रुकी। सेनापति पूजा के लिए मंदिर में चला गया। थोड़ी देर बाद वह मंदिर से वापिस निकला और उसने सैनिकों से कहा, मेरे पास अभिमंत्रित किया हुआ सिक्का है। यह हमें बताएगा कि युद्ध लड़ना है या पीछे हटना है। इसके बाद उसने सिक्‍के को आसमान में उछाला। सिक्का उछालने के पहले उसने कहा था कि अगर चित्त आता है तो विजय होगी और पट आता है तो पराजय।

सिक्का जमीन पर गिरा। लोगों में खुशी की लहर दौड़ गई। क्योकि सिक्का चित्त की तरफ से गिरा था। सैनिकों का आत्मविश्वास फिर से जाग गया। युद्ध के मैदान में जब दोनों सेनाएं आमने-सामने थी तो आत्मविश्वास से भरी सेना ने जमकर युद्ध किया। हुआ यूं कि उन्होंने अपने से ज्यादा भारी सेना के लोगों को हरा दिया।

युद्ध समाप्त हो चुका था। विजयी सेना के सरदार ने दूसरे सरदार से कहा, ‘हमें तो जीतना ही था।’ यह सुनकर सेनापति ने सरदार को अपने पास बुलाया और वह अभिमंत्रित सिक्का दिखाया। उस सिक्के के दोनों तरफ चित्त बना हुआ था।

कठिन परिस्थितियों में जो अभिमंत्रित सिक्का हमें सफलता दिलाता है, वही आत्मविश्वास है। यदि विश्वास दृढ़ हो कि यह कार्य करना है तो सैकड़ों बाधाओं को पार करके भी हम उसमें सफल हो जाएंगे।जीत का मनोविज्ञान आत्मविश्वास में निहित है। इसलिए कहा भी गया है कि, ‘मन के हारे हार है मन के जीते जीत।’
