राजा को क्यों आती थी गांव में दुर्गंध

अवंतिका देश का राजा रवि सिंह महात्मा आशुतोष पर बड़ी ही श्रद्धा रखता था। वह उनसे मिलने रोज कुटिया में जाता था। लेकिन हर बार जब महात्मा को राजा अपने महल में आने के लिए आमंत्रित करता, महात्मा मना कर देते।

एक दिन राजा रवि सिंह ने जिद पकड़ ली। तब महात्मा ने कहा, ‘मुझे तुम्हारे महल में दुर्गंध महसूस होती है।’ रवि सिंह अपने महल लौट आए लेकिन काफी देर तक महात्मा की बातों पर विचार करते रहे।

कुछ दिनों बाद जब राजा फिर से महात्मा के पास पहुंचे तो महात्मा राजा को पास के ही गांव में घुमाने ले गए। दोनों जंगल को पार करते हुए एक गांव में पहुंचे। उस गांव में कई पशु थे। उनके चमड़े के कारण दुर्गंध आ रही थी। जब दुर्गंध सहन करने योग्य नहीं रह गई तो राजा ने महात्मा से कहा, ‘चलिए महात्मा यहां से, मुझसे ये दुर्गंध बर्दाश्त नहीं होती।’

तब महात्मा ने कहा, ‘यहां सभी हैं लेकिन दुर्गंध आप को ही आ रही है।’ राजा ने कहा, ‘ये लोग इसके आदी हो चुके हैं मैं नहीं।’ तब महात्मा ने कहा, ‘राजन्! यही हाल तुम्हारे महल का है। जहां भोग और विषय की गंध फैली रहती है। तुम इसके आदी हो चुके हो। लेकिन मुझे वहां जाने की कल्पना से ही कष्ट होने लगता है।’

One day, Raja Ravi Singh caught stubbornness. Then the Mahatma said, ‘I feel a smell in your palace.’ Ravi Singh returned to his palace but for a long time he kept thinking about the Mahatma.

A few days later when the king again approached the Mahatma, then Mahatma Raja was taken to a nearby village. Both of them reached a village crossing the jungle. There were many animals in that village. The smell of their leather was coming. When the deodorant was not able to bear, the king said to the Mahatma, ‘Let’s go Mahatma from here, I do not tolerate this funk.’

Then the Mahatma said, ‘There are all here but the funk is coming to you.’ The king said, ‘These people have become accustomed to it, I am not.’ Then the Mahatma said, ‘Rajan! This is your palace. Where the smell of indulgence and subject matter is spreading. You have become accustomed to it. But I imagine suffering from the imagination of going there. ‘
