कबाड़ी की नौकरी से लेखक बनने तक का सफर

मैक्सिम गोर्की को बचपन से पढ़ना बहुत पसंद था, पर घर में पढ़ाई के लायक स्थितियां नहीं थीं। वह पढ़ना चाहते थे। इसके लिए उन्होंने एक कबाड़ी के यहां नौकरी कर ली।

कबाड़ी की दुकान में रोज हजारों पुस्तकें आती थीं। पुस्तकों को देखते ही गोर्की का मन उन्हें पढ़ने के लिए लालयित हो उठता था। काम के बाद जब भी उन्हें समय मिलता, वे किताबें पढ़ते। जिस दिन वह कुछ पढ़ नहीं पाते, वह दिन उन्हें अधूरा-अधूरा लगता।

शुरू-शुरू में गोर्की को कई पुस्तकें समझ में ही नहीं आती थीं। फिर भी वे उन्हें पढ़ते और समझने की कोशिश करते। जल्दी ही उन्होंने दुनिया भर की हजारों किताबें पढ़ डालीं। कुछ समय के बाद गोर्की को महसूस हुआ कि उन्हें केवल पढ़ने तक ही सीमित नहीं रहना चाहिए, बल्कि लिखने का भी प्रयास करना चाहिए।

एक दिन गोर्की ने खेल-खेल में एक कहानी लिखकर उसे समाचार-पत्र में छपने के लिए भेज दिया।

कुछ दिनों बाद वही कहानी न सिर्फ प्रकाशित हुई, बल्कि एक सुप्रसिद्ध लेखक ने उस कहानी के लिए बधाई पत्र भी भेजा। यह देखकर गोर्की का उत्साह बढ़ गया। अब उन्होंने अपना सारा ध्यान लेखन और अध्ययन पर लगा दिया। वह लगातार लिखने लगे। फिर उन्होंने ‘मां’ जैसी महान रचना लिखी।इसने दुनिया के प्रमुख लेखकों में उनकी जगह पक्की कर दी।
