बड़े काम की है सुखदा मणि

बहुत पुरानी बात है। एक संत थे। धर्म में श्रद्धा के कारण वह हमेशा खुश रहते थे। उनके चेहरे से उल्लास टपकता था। एक बार कुछ चोरों ने समझा कि संत के पास कोई बड़ी दौलत है, अन्यथा हर घड़ी इतने प्रसन्न रहने का और क्या कारण हो सकता है?

अवसर पाकर चोरों ने संत का अपहरण कर लिया, जंगल में ले गए और बोले, हमने सुना है कि आपके पास सुखदा मणि है, इसी से इतने प्रसन्न रहते हैं, उसे हमारे हवाले कीजिए, अन्यथा जान की खैर नहीं।

संत ने एक-एक करके हर चोर को अलग-अलग बुलाया और कहा, चोरों के डर से मैंने उस मणि को जमीन में दफना दिया है। यहां से कुछ दूरी पर एक स्थान है। ध्यान रखना अपने सिर के नीचे चंद्रमा की छाया तक इसे खोदते जाओ तुम्हें मणि मिल जाएगी।

संत पेड़ के नीचे सो गए। चोर अलग-अलग दिशा में खोदते रहे। जरा सा खोद पाते की चंद्रमा की छाया बदल जाती और उन्हें जहां-तहां खुदाई करनी पड़ती। रात भर में सैकड़ों छोटे-बड़े गड्डे बन गए। लेकिन मणि का कहीं से कुछ भी पता नहीं चल पाया।

चोर परेशान होकर लौट आए और संत पर गलत बात कहने का आरोप लगाकर झगड़ने लगे। तब संत बोले, मूर्खों, मेरे कहने का आशय का अर्थ समझो। सिर तले सुखदा मणि छिपी है, यानी धार्मिक विचारों के कारण मनुष्य प्रसन्न रह सकता है। तुम भी अपना दृष्टिकोण बदलो और खुश रहना सीखो।

चोरों को यथार्थता का बोध हुआ तो वे अपनी आदतों सुधारकर खुशी-खुशी रहने की कला सीख गए। यही थी सुखदा मणि।
