ऐसे पढ़ेंगे तभी तो होगा याद

बात तब की है जब स्वामी विवेकानंद प्रसिद्ध नहीं हुए थे। उन्हें अच्छी किताबें पढ़ने का बहुत शौक था। एक बार वे देश में ही कहीं प्रवास पर थे। उनके गुरुभाई उन्हें एक बड़े पुस्तकालय से अच्छी-अच्छी किताबें लाकर देते थे।

स्वामी जी की पढ़ने की गति बहुत तेज थी। मोटी-मोटी कई किताबें एक ही दिन में पढ़कर अगले दिन वापस कर देते। उस पुस्तकालय का अधीक्षक बड़ा हैरान हो गया।

उसने स्वामी जी के गुरु भाई से कहा, ‘आप इतनी सारी किताबें क्यों ले जाते हैं, जब आपको इन्हें पढ़ना ही नहीं है? रोज इतना वजन उठाने की क्या जरूरत है? स्वामी जी के गुरु भाई ने कहा, ‘मैं अपने गुरुभाई विवेकानंद के लिए ये किताबें ले जाता हूं। वे इन सब किताबों को पूरी गंभीरता से पढ़ते हैं।

अधीक्षक को विश्वास ही नहीं हुआ। उसने कहा, ‘अगर ऐसा है तो मैं उनसे मिलना चाहूंगा। अगले दिन स्वामी जी उससे मिले और कहा, ‘महाशय, आप हैरान न हों। मैंने न केवल उन किताबों को पढ़ा है, बल्कि उन्हें याद भी कर लिया है।

स्वामी विवेकानंद ने जब उन किताबों के कई महत्वपूर्ण अंश सुना दिए, तो पुस्तकालय अधीक्षक चकित रह गया। उसने उनकी याददाश्त का रहस्य पूछा। स्वामी जी बोले, ‘मन को एकाग्र करके पढ़ा जाए तो वह दिमाग में अंकित हो जाता है। एकाग्रता का अभ्यास करके आप जल्दी पढ़ना भी सीख सकते हैं।
