बुरा न देखो, न सुनो

वेद, पुराण, बाइबिल आदि सभी ग्रंथों में किसी की निंदा करने और सुनने तथा दोष दर्शन को वाणी, नेत्रों और कानों का पाप कहा गया है। बाइबिल में लिखा है,

‘जो बुराई सुनता है, किसी की निंदा करता है, वह व्यर्थ ही अपना शत्रु पैदा करता है। जो किसी की बुराई देखने को तत्पर रहता है, वह अपनी आँखों को अपवित्र करता है। यदि दोष ढूँढ़ना हो, तो अपना दोष तलाश कर उसे दूर करने का प्रयास करना चाहिए।

अरब देश में उच्च कोटि के एक फकीर रहते थे। लोग उन्हें बहरा समझकर ‘बहरा हातिम’ कहते थे। एक दिन कुछ लोग हातिम के दर्शन के लिए पहुंचे।

वे पास बैठे थे कि सामने की दीवार पर मक्खी मकड़ी के जाल में फँस गई और छुटकारा पाने के लिए भिनभिनाने लगी। एकाएक हातिम के मुँह ने निकला, ‘ऐ लोभ की मारी, अब क्यों भिनभिना रही है?

तू,शहद और कंद के लोभ में घूमती-घूमती मकड़ी द्वारा फैलाए जाल में फँसकर उसकी शिकार बन जाती है। अब फँस चुकी तो लोभ का परिणाम।

भुगत सामने बैठे लोग हैरान थे कि हातिम बहरे हैं, तो उन्होंने मक्खी की भिनभिनाहट कैसे सुन ली। एक व्यक्ति ने पूछ ही लिया, तो संत हातिम ने कहा, ‘मैं अपने कानों में किसी की बुराई या अपनी बड़ाई के शब्द नहीं आने देना चाहता।

लोग मुझे बहरा समझकर मुझसे बेकार की बातें नहीं करते। मैं बुरे शब्द सुनने से बचा रहता हूँ। साथ ही यदि कोई बहरा समझकर आपस में मेरे दोष का वर्णन करता है, तो मैं उन्हें चुपचाप दूर करने का प्रयत्न करता हूँ। इस तरह बहरा बनने से मुझे अनायास कई फायदे हो जाते हैं।

English Translation

In all the scriptures like Vedas, Puranas, Bible etc., to condemn and hear someone and see the blame is said to be the sin of speech, eyes and ears. It is written in the Bible,

‘He who hears evil, condemns someone, in vain creates his enemy. He who is ready to see someone’s evil, he pollutes his eyes. If you want to find fault, then you should try to find your fault and remove it.

There lived a fakir of high order in the Arab country. People considered him deaf and called him ‘Bahra Hatim’. One day some people came to see Hatim.

They were sitting nearby when the fly on the front wall got caught in the spider’s web and started buzzing to get rid of it. Suddenly the hater’s mouth came out, ‘Why is it buzzing now, O beating of covetousness?

You fall prey to the web spread by a spider that roams around in the greed of honey and tubers. If you are trapped now then it is the result of greed.

The people sitting in front were surprised that Hatim was deaf, so how did they hear the buzzing of a fly. When a person asked, then Saint Hatim said, ‘I do not want to let the words of anyone’s evil or my pride come in my ears.

People don’t talk nonsense about me considering me deaf. I avoid hearing bad words. At the same time, if someone describes my faults among themselves as deaf, then I try to remove them silently. By becoming deaf like this, I spontaneously get many benefits.
