एक बार की बात है कृष्णदेव राजा के दरबार में एक व्यक्ति आया। उस व्यक्ति के हाथ में एक लोहे का बक्सा था। जिसमे ताला लगा हुआ था। वह राजा से बोला की इस बक्से में मेरे पूर्वजो की धन सम्पति है।

आप इसको अपने पास रख लो जिससे की मै उत्तर भारत के सभी मंदिरों में दर्शन के लिए जा सकूँ। राजा ने उस व्यक्ति की बात को मान लिया। इसके बाद वह व्यक्ति वहाँ से चला गया।

राजा ने अपने सेनिको से कहा की इस बक्से को राज खजाने में रख दो। इस पर एक मंत्री बोला की महाराज राज खजाने में तो केवल शाही खजाना ही होना चाहिए। आप इसको अपने प्रिय सलाहकार तेनाली राम को दे दीजिये।

राजा ने मंत्री की बात को मानकर बक्से को तेनाली राम को रखने के लिए दे दिया। जब तक वह व्यक्ति लौट कर नहीं आता। तेनाली राम ने बक्सा ले जाकर अपने घर में रख दिया। 6 महीने के बाद वह व्यक्ति लौट आया और राजा से अपना बक्सा मांगने लगा।

राजा ने तेनाली राम को बक्सा लाकर व्यक्ति को देने को बोला। जब तेनाली बक्सा लाने घर गया तो उसने देखा की बक्से का वजन पहले से कम हो चूका था।

उसको पता चल गया था की व्यक्ति बेवकूफ बना रहा है। इसके बाद वह खाली हाथ ही दरबार में गया और उस व्यक्ति से बोला की मै तुम्हारा बक्सा नहीं ला सकता क्योंकि तुम्हारे पूर्वज हमारे घर आ रखे है।

उस व्यक्ति ने राजा को कहा की तेनाली राम झूठ बोल रहा है यह मेरे खजाने का बक्सा नहीं देना चाहता। तेनाली राम ने राजा से भी वहीं बात कहीं। इसके बाद राजा बोले की हम सब तुम्हारे घर जायेंगे।

यदि तुम्हारे घर में इसके पूर्वज नहीं मिले तो तुमको सजा मिलेगी। तेनाली राम इसके लिए मान गया। इसके बाद सभी तेनाली राम के घर गए। वहाँ जाकर सबने देखा की बक्से के अंदर चीटियाँ जा रही थी।

राजा ने बक्से को खोलने का आदेश दिया। जब बक्से को खोला गया तो उसमे चीनी भरी हुई थी। राजा ने उस व्यक्ति को कहा की तुमने हमको बेवकूफ बनाने की कोशिश की।

वह व्यक्ति बोला की यह उसने एक मंत्री के कहने पर किया है जो तेनाली राम को फसा कर सजा दिलाना चाहता था। राजा ने उस व्यक्ति और मंत्री दोनों को जेल में डाल दिया। राजा ने तेनाली से पूछा तुमको यह कैसे पता लगा की बक्से में खजाना नहीं है।

तेनाली राम ने कहा की मै जब भी कभी देखता था तो उस बक्से के आसपास चीटियां ही नज़र आती थी। अगर उसमे खजाना होता तो वहाँ चीटियाँ नज़र नहीं आती। इसलिए मैंने चीटियों को उसके पूर्वज कहा। राजा ने तेनाली की बुद्धिमानी की तारीफ की।

English Translation

Once upon a time a person came to the court of King Krishnadev. The man had an iron box in his hand. Which was locked. He told the king that in this box is the wealth of my ancestors.

You keep this with you so that I can go to all the temples of North India for darshan. The king accepted the man’s word. After that the person left from there.

The king told his soldiers to keep this box in the royal treasury. On this a minister said that there should be only royal treasury in the Maharaja’s treasury. You give it to your dear advisor Tenali Ram.

The king accepted the minister’s request and gave the box to Tenali Rama to keep. Until that person comes back. Tenali Rama took the box and kept it in his house. After 6 months the man returned and started asking the king for his box.

The king asked Tenali Rama to bring the box and give it to the person. When Tenali went home to get the box, he saw that the weight of the box had already reduced.

He knew that the person was making a fool. After this he went to the court empty handed and told that person that I cannot bring your box because your ancestors have come to our house.

That person told the king that Tenali Ram is lying, he does not want to give my treasure box. Tenali Rama spoke to the king there as well. After this the king said that we will all go to your house.

If its ancestors are not found in your house, you will be punished. Tenali Rama agreed to this. After this everyone went to Tenali Rama’s house. Going there everyone saw that ants were going inside the box.

The king ordered the box to be opened. When the box was opened, it was full of sugar. The king said to the person that you tried to fool us.

The person said that he did this at the behest of a minister who wanted to get Tenali Ram punished by implicating him. The king put both the man and the minister in jail. The king asked Tenali how did you come to know that there is no treasure in the box.

Tenali Ram said that whenever I used to look, only ants could be seen around that box. If there was a treasure in it, then ants would not be seen there. That’s why I called the ants his ancestors. The king praised Tenali’s intelligence.
