भूखे को भोजन

सभी शास्त्रों में कहा गया है कि किसी की सहायता करते समय उसकी जाति का विचार कदापि नहीं करना चाहिए। किसी की भूख मिटाते समय यही समझ लेना पर्याप्त है कि वह प्राणी है।

शेख सादी ने हजरत खलील के जीवन की एक सत्य घटना का वर्णन किया है। हजरत खलील का संकल्प था कि वे बिना किसी को खिलाए खुद नहीं खाते थे।

एक दिन उनके यहाँ कोई मेहमान नहीं आया। उन्होंने उस दिन खाना नहीं खाया। दूसरे-तीसरे दिन भी कोई मेहमान नहीं आया। चौथे दिन हजरत मेहमान की तलाश में निकल पड़े। एक बूढ़े को देखा, तो उससे खाना खाने की गुजारिश की। बूढ़े ने हामी भर दी। वे उसे घर ले आए।

उन्होंने वृद्ध के सामने खाना परोस दिया। बूढ़े ने जैसे ही रोटी का टुकड़ा मुँह में डालना चाहा कि हजरत खलील ने कहा, ‘बड़े मियाँ, आपने खुदा का नाम नहीं लिया। हमें खाना उपलब्ध कराने के लिए खुदा का धन्यवाद करना चाहिए।

“मैं अग्नि पूजक (पारसी) गुरु का अनुयायी हूँ। उन्होंने मुझे बूढ़े ने कहा, यह सीख कभी नहीं दी।’ यह सुनकर हजरत खलील दुःखी हुए। उन्होंने बूढ़े के सामने से खाना हटा लिया और उसे घर से निकाल दिया।

तभी हजरत खलील को खुदा की ओर से चेतावनी देते हुए कहा गया, ‘मैंने उस बूढ़े को सौ बरस खाना और जिंदगी दी और तू जरा-सी देर भी उसे नहीं निभा सका। माना कि वह अग्नि पूजक है, पर तू इसी कारण दया का हाथ क्यों खींच लेता है?’ हजरत खलील का हृदय पश्चात्ताप से भर उठा। उन्होंने भोजन कराते समय भेदभाव न करने का संकल्प ले लिया।

English Translation

It is said in all the scriptures that while helping someone, his caste should never be considered. While quenching one’s hunger, it is enough to understand that he is a creature.

Sheikh Saadi has narrated a true incident from the life of Hazrat Khalil. Hazrat Khalil had a resolution that he himself did not eat without feeding anyone.

One day no guest came to him. He did not eat food that day. No guest came on the second or third day. On the fourth day Hazrat set out in search of the guest. When he saw an old man, he requested him to have food. The old man agreed. They brought him home.

He served food in front of the old man. As soon as the old man tried to put the piece of bread in his mouth, Hazrat Khalil said, ‘Big Miyan, you did not take the name of God. We should thank God for providing us food.

“I am a follower of a fire worshiper (Parsi) guru. He told me the old man, never taught this lesson.’ Hazrat Khalil was saddened to hear this. They took away the food in front of the old man and drove him out of the house.

Then Hazrat Khaleel was given a warning from God and said, ‘I gave that old man a hundred years of food and life and you could not maintain him even for a little while. Suppose he is a worshiper of fire, but why do you withdraw the hand of mercy because of this?’ Hazrat Khalil’s heart filled with repentance. He took a pledge not to discriminate while serving food.
