ना जाने किस भेष में दया धर्म मिल जाए

संत एकनाथ ने देखा कि एक गधा प्यास से तड़प कर मरने वाला था। उन्होंने पानी का कमंडल उसके मुंह में उड़ेल दिया। गधा प्यास बुझने के बाद उठकर खड़ा हो गया।

शिष्यों ने जब यह देखा तो वो संत से बोले, यह आपने क्या कर दिया। अब भगवान शिव का अभिषेक कैसे होगा।

एकनाथ जी बोले, ‘अरे क्या तुमने नहीं देखा, स्वयं देवाधिदेव रामेश्वर(शिव) ही तो इस जीव के रूप में आए थे। कितने कृपालु हैं वे, स्वयं ही आ गए और हमें वहां तक जाने का कष्ट ही नहीं दिया।’

Once Saint Eknath was going on a journey from Kashi to Rameswaram with his disciples. He had a kamandal in his hand, in which the river was filled with water. It was summer time. Water was not available for miles.

Saint Eknath saw that a donkey was about to die and suffer from thirst. He gave the kamandal of water in his mouth. The donkey got up after quenching the thirst and stood up.

When the disciples saw this, they said to the saint, What did you do? How will Lord Shiva be anointed now?

Eknathji said, ‘Hey, did not you see, Devdhidev Rameshwar (Shiva) himself came only as the creature. How graceful they are, they themselves have come and have not given us the pain to go there. ‘
