धर्म की निंदा होने पर दिया उचित तर्क

बात उस समय की है जब स्वामी विवेकानंद पूना (वर्तमान में पुणे) गए हुए होते थे। वह रेलगाड़ी से वहां जा रहे थे। तभी वहां कुछ शिक्षित लोगों ने अंग्रेजी भाषा में सन्यासियों की निंदा करना शुरू कर दी। उन्हें लगा कि स्वामी जी को अंग्रेजी भाषा का ज्ञान ने होने के चलते वह नहीं समझ पाएंगे।

चर्चा जब रुकने का नाम नहीं ले रही थी और निंदा भी असीम हो रही थी तब स्वामी जी ने अंग्रेजी में बोलना शुरू कर दिया। युगों-युगों से से सन्यासियों ने ही तो संसार की आध्यात्मिक भाव धारा को सतेज और अक्षुण्ण बना रखा है। बुद्ध क्या थे, शंकराचार्य क्या थे? उनकी आध्यात्मिक देन को क्या भारत अस्वीकार कर सकता है, स्वामीजी के मुख से धर्म का क्रम विकास, देश विदेश के धर्मों की प्रगति का इतिहास तथा अनेक गंभीर दार्शनिक बातें सुनकर सहयात्रियों को विवश होकर हथियार डाल देना पड़ा।

यह वही समय था जब स्वामीजी को शिकागो की विश्व धर्म परिषद सम्मेलन का पता चला था और यह सर्वविदित है कि उस धर्म सभा में स्वामीजी ने किसी भी धर्म की निंदा या समालोचना नहीं की अपितु उन्होंने कहा- ‘ईसाई को हिन्दू या बौद्ध नहीं बनना होगा, और न हिन्दू अथवा बौद्ध को ईसाई ही। पर हां प्रत्येक धर्म को अपनी स्वतंत्रता और वैशिष्टय को बनाए रखकर दूसरे धर्मों का भाव ग्रहण करते हुए क्रमशः उन्नत होना होगा। उन्नति या विकास का यही एकमात्र नियम है।’

उनकी इन बातों से वो अंग्रेज हैरान रह गए। इसी प्रसंग पर भगिनी निवेदिता लिखती हैं, ‘शिकागो की धर्म महासभा में जब स्वामीजी ने अपना भाषण आरंभ किया तो उनका विषय था, हिंदुओं के प्राचीन विचार, पर जब उनका भाषण समाप्त हुआ तो आधुनिक हिन्दू धर्म की सृष्टि हो चुकी थी।’

At that time, some educated people started condemning the Sanyasis in the English language. They thought that due to Swamiji’s knowledge of English language, he would not understand.

Swamiji started speaking in English when the discussion was not taking the name of stoppage and condemnation was becoming infinitely too. From the ages, the Sanyasis have only kept the spiritual sense of the world as sataj and intact. What were Buddha, what were Shankaracharya? What can India deny their spiritual commitment, by swearing in the order of Swamiji, the history of progress of the religions of foreign countries, and many serious philosophical things, the supporters were forced to put arms in the hands.

It was at this time that Swamiji had come to know of the World Council of Religions Council of Chicago and it is well-known that Swamiji did not condemn or criticize any religion in that Dharma Sabha but he said, “Christianity should not be Hindu or Buddhist.” , And neither Hindus nor Buddhists are Christians. But yes, every religion will have to advance itself while retaining its independence and specialty while accepting the values ​​of other religions. This is the only rule of advancement or development. ‘

They were amazed by these things. Sister Nivedita writes on this occasion, “When Swamiji started his speech in the General Assembly of Chicago, his theme was that, ancient ideas of Hindus, but when his speech was finished, modern Hindu religion had been created.”
