कर भला, हो भला

किसी शहर में एकांत क्षेत्र में एक भिक्षुक रहता था। वह रोज भिक्षा लाता और घर पर लाने के बाद कहता, ‘बुरा करने वाले का बुरा, और भला करने वाले का भला होता है।’

उसी शहर में एक वृद्ध महिला रहती थी, उसके विचार ठीक नहीं थे। एक दिन वह भिक्षुक से बोली, ‘क्या तुम यह मानते हो कि तुम्हारे कहे अनुसार ऐसा ही होता है।’ भिक्षुक ने कहा, ‘हां तथागत यही कहते हैं।’

वृद्ध महिला इस बात को लेकर नाराज हो गई उसने भिक्षुक की बात गलत करने के लिए उसे दूसरे दिन विष मिली मिठाई, भिक्षा में दी। भिक्षुक वह मिठाई लेकर अपने घर गया। रात हो चुकी थी। तभी उसके घर के बाहर किसी यात्री की आवाज आई। उसने अपना सारी यात्रा का हाल सुनाया।

भिक्षुक ने उसे वह मिठाई और पीने के लिए पानी दिया। मिठाई खाने के बाद वह यात्री मर गया। यह बात जब राजा के सैनिकों को पता चली तो वह भिक्षुक को पकड़कर ले गए। रास्ते में वह वृद्ध महिला मिली। उसने भिक्षुक पर तंज कसा। भिक्षुक ने उसे कोई उत्तर नहीं दिया।

नौजवान यात्री के शव की शिनाख्त जब पुलिस ने की तो पता चला कि वह उस नगर का ही रहने वाला है। वृद्ध महिला भी उसे देखने आई। लेकिन वह देखते ही हैरान हो गई। क्योंकि वो नौजवान यात्री का शव उसके अपने बेटे का था। उसे भिक्षुक की बात याद आई औऱ सिपाहियों को सारा हाल कह सुनाया। सिपाहियों ने वृद्ध महिला को कैद कर लिया और भिक्षुक को मुक्त कर दिया।
