उदेश्यों की पवित्रता से मिलती है महानता

कान्यकुब्ज देश के राजा कौशिक एक दिन अपने दल-बल समेत आखेट के लिए वन की ओर गए। लौटते समय वशिष्ठ ऋषि के आश्रम में कौशिक का ठहरना हुआ। राजा और उनकी विशाल सेना की वशिष्ठ ने भरपूर आवभगत की। कौशिक को आश्चर्य हुआ कि इस घने जंगल में एक त्यागी- तपस्वी ऋषि के पास इतने साधन कहां से आए। पूछने पर वशिष्ठ ने अपनी नंदिनी गाय के बारे में बताया। हर इच्छा की पूर्ति करने वाली यह गाय इंद्र ने वशिष्ठ को दी थी। कौशिक ने ऋषि से कहा- राजमहल में ऐसी गाय की अधिक उपयोगिता है, इसलिए आप इसे मुझे दे दीजिए और बदले में जो चाहे मांग लीजिए। वशिष्ठ ने इंकार कर दिया। कौशिक अपनी सेना के बल पर नंदिनी को छीनने की योजना बनाने लगे। यह देख नंदिनी ने अपनी सेना खड़ी की और कौशिक को हरा दिया।
पराजय से अपमानित कौशिक राज-पाठ त्याग कर तपस्या करने लगे। घोर तप के बाद उन्होंने भगवान शंकर से अग्नि अस्त्र पाया और फिर वशिष्ठ के आश्रम पर हमला कर दिया। इस बार ऋषि ने ब्रह्मदंड से उसे हराया।
भगवान शंकर के दिए अस्त्र को भी नकाम करने वाले वशिष्ठ की श्रेष्ठता का तब कौशिक को अहसास हुआ। वह पुन: तपस्या करने चल पड़े। उन्होंने घोर तप कर अपनी वासना और क्रोध पर विजय प्राप्त की और सात्विक गुणों को प्राप्त किया। कौशिक में आए इस सकारात्मक बदलाव से प्रसन्न होकर वशिष्ठ ने उन्हें ब्रह्मर्षि की उपाधि से विभूषित किया। यही राजा आगे चलकर महर्षि विश्वामित्र कहलाए और त्रेतायुग में भगवान श्रीराम व लक्ष्मण के गुरु बने।

सार- जब मन निर्मल हो और साधना के उदेश्य पवित्र हो तो इंसान महामानव बन जाता है। उसका नाम इतिहास में स्वर्णाक्षरों में दर्ज होता है और वह आदर्श की एक मिसाल बन जाता है।

King Kaushik of the country of Kanyakubj went towards the forest for hunting with his team. While returning, Kaushik stayed in the ashram of Vasishtha Rishi. The king and his huge army Vashistha paid a lot of attention. Kaushik wondered from where did a recluse-ascetic sage come with so many resources in this dense forest. When asked, Vasistha told about his Nandini cow.This cow, which fulfilled every wish, was given to Vasishta by Indra. Kaushik said to the sage – such a cow is more useful in the palace, so you give it to me and ask for whatever you want in return. Vasistha refused. Kaushik plans to snatch Nandini on the strength of his army. Seeing this, Nandini raised her army and defeated Kaushik.

Humiliated by the defeat, Kaushik renounced the recitation and started doing penance. After severe penance, he got fire weapon from Lord Shankar and then attacked Vashistha’s ashram. This time the sage defeated him with a brahmand.Pleased with this positive change in Kaushik, Vashistha honored him with the title of Brahmarshi. This king later came to be called Maharishi Vishwamitra and in Tretayuga became the guru of Lord Shri Ram and Lakshmana.

Abstract- When the mind is pure and the purpose of cultivation is pure, then a person becomes a great human being. His name is recorded in the golden letters in history and he becomes an example of an ideal.
