शास्त्रों में प्रथम पूज्य भगवान गणेश जी की पूजा बुधवार करने का विधान है. वैसे तो भगवान गणेश की पूजा किसी भी पूजा के पहले की जाती है. लेकिन बुधवार को गजानंद के भक्त पूरे विधि-विधान के साथ उनकी अराधना करते हैं. गणशे जी की पूजा में दूर्वा जरूर होता है. क्योंकि श्री गणेश को दूर्वा बहुत प्रिय है. .
मोदक और लड्डू का भोग तो भगवान गणेश जी को अति प्रिय है ही इसके अलावा गणेश जी को ‘दूर्वा’ चढ़ाने का भी काफी महत्व है। कहा जाता है कि गणेश पूजन में गणेश जी को दूर्वा अर्पित करने से गणेश जी प्रसन्न होते हैं और भक्त को उनकी विशेष कृपा प्राप्त होती है।
आपको बता दें कि ‘दूर्वा’ एक प्रकार की घास है जिसे ‘दूब’ भी कहा जाता है, संस्कृत में इसे दूर्वा, अमृता, अनंता, गौरी, महौषधि, शतपर्वा, भार्गवी आदि नामों से जाना जाता है। ‘दूर्वा’ कई महत्वपूर्ण औषधीय गुणों से युक्त है। मान्यता है कि समुद्र मंथन के समय जब समुद्र से अमृत-कलश निकला तो देवताओं से इसे पाने के लिए दैत्यों ने खूब छीना-झपटी की जिससे अमृत की कुछ बूंदे पृथ्वी पर भी गिर गईं थी जिससे ही इस विशेष घास ‘दूर्वा’ की उत्पत्ति हुई।

दूब या दुर्वा वर्ष भर पायी जाने वाली घास है जो जमीन पर पसरते हुए या फैलते हुए बढ़ती है। हिन्दू संस्कारों एवं कर्मकाण्डों में इसका उपयोग किया जाता है तथा वर्ष में दो बार सितम्बर-अक्टूबर और फरवरी-मार्च में इसमें फूल आते हैं।
यह एक प्रकार की घास होती है, जो सिर्फ गणेश पूजन में ही उपयोग में लाई जाती है.

आखिर श्री गणेश को क्यों इतनी प्रिय है दूर्वा? इसके पीछे क्या कहानी है? क्यों इसकी 21 गांठें ही श्री गणेश को चढ़ाई जाती है?

ऐसा माना जाता है कि दुर्वा की 21 गांठें अगर भगवान गणेश को चढ़ाने से हर मनोकामना पूर्ण होती है. इसके पिछे एक पौराणिक कथा है एक पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार प्राचीनकाल में अनलासुर नाम का एक दैत्य था, उसके कोप से स्वर्ग और धरती पर त्राहि-त्राहि मची हुई थी। अनलासुर एक ऐसा दैत्य था, जो मुनि-ऋषियों और साधारण मनुष्यों को जिंदा निगल जाता था। इस दैत्य के अत्याचारों से त्रस्त होकर इंद्र सहित सभी देवी-देवता, ऋषि-मुनि भगवान महादेव से प्रार्थना करने जा पहुंचे और सभी ने महादेव से यह प्रार्थना की कि वे अनलासुर के आतंक का खात्मा करें।

तब महादेव ने समस्त देवी-देवताओं तथा मुनि-ऋषियों की प्रार्थना सुनकर उनसे कहा कि दैत्य अनलासुर का नाश केवल श्री गणेश ही कर सकते हैं। फिर सबकी प्रार्थना पर श्री गणेश ने अनलासुर को निगल लिया, तब उनके पेट में बहुत जलन होने लगी।

इस परेशानी से निपटने के लिए कई प्रकार के उपाय करने के बाद भी जब गणेशजी के पेट की जलन शांत नहीं हुई, तब कश्यप ऋषि ने दूर्वा की 21 गांठें बनाकर श्री गणेश को खाने को दीं। यह दूर्वा श्री गणेशजी ने ग्रहण की, तब कहीं जाकर उनके पेट की जलन शांत हुई। ऐसा माना जाता है कि श्री गणेश को दूर्वा चढ़ाने की परंपरा तभी से आरंभ हुई।

दूर्वा चढ़ाने के नियम
मान्यता है कि दूर्वा घास के 11 जोड़ों को भगवान गणेश को चढ़ाना चाहिए. दूर्वा को चढ़ाने के लिए किसी साफ जगह से ही दूर्वा घास को तोड़ना चाहिए. गंदी जगहों से कभी भी दूर्वा घास को नहीं तोड़ना चाहिए. दूर्वा चढ़ाते समय गणेशजी के 12 मंत्रों का जाप जरूर करें.

गणेश जी को हमेशा दूर्वा का जोड़ा बनाकर चढ़ाना चाहिए यानि कि 22 दूर्वा को जोड़े से बनाने पर 11 जोड़ा दूर्वा का तैयार हो जाता है।

दूर्वा भगवान श्री गणेश को बहुत प्यारी है। गणेशजी को दूर्वा चढ़ाना बहुत ही शुभ और लाभकारी माना जाता है। एकमात्र गणेश जी एक ऐसे देव हैं, जिन्हें यह दूब पूजन में काम में ली जाती है। दूर्वा एक तरह की घास होती है जो प्राय बाग—बगीचों में मिल ही जाती है।

दूर्वा को जड़ सहित तोड़कर और पवित्र जल से साफ करके 21 दूर्वाओं को मिलाकर मोली से गांठ बांध दी जाती है और फिर इसे पूजन थाल में रख दिया जाता है

Even after taking various measures to deal with this problem, when the burning sensation of Ganesha’s stomach did not subside, then Kashyap Rishi made 21 knots of Durva and gave them to Shri Ganesha to eat. Shri Ganeshji accepted this Durva, then after going somewhere the burning sensation of his stomach subsided. It is believed that the tradition of offering Durva to Shri Ganesha started since then.
