मंगू एक माली था, शहर में एक बड़ी सी कॉलोनी में जिसमें बहुत सारी बड़ी-बड़ी कोठिया बनी हुई थी, वह वहां जाता और वहां की 5-7 कोठियों के बगीचे की खूब रखवाली करता। . जिस जिस के घर में भी वो काम करता सब घरवाले मंगू से बहुत खुश रहते थे। . कीमती लाल नाम का एक सेठ था। मंगु उसके घर में भी माली का काम करता था। . मंगू जब भी कीमती लाल के घर के बगीचे में पौधों को पानी देता, मिट्टी खोदता तो एक ऐसी जगह होती जिस मे से उसको एक कोने में से मिट्टी के नीचे से थोड़ी थोड़ी आहट की आवाज आती। . जैसे कि कोई मिट्टी को नीचे से खटखटा रहा हो, और बाहर निकलने की कोशिश कर रहा हो। . मंगू ने कई बार वह आवाज सुनी थी लेकिन उसने उसकी तरफ ध्यान नहीं दिया। उसने सोचा कि शायद कोई जानवर होगा। . लेकिन हर बार जब भी वह उस जगह जाता तो उसको आवाज जरूर आती। . एक दिन मंगू ने हिम्मत करके उस जगह को खोदा तो खोदते खोदते हैरान हो गया, उसमें से एक बहुत ही सुंदर से लड्डू गोपाल निकले। . मंगू ने लड्डू गोपाल को बाहर निकाला। लड्डू गोपाल का शरीर गर्म था और वह मिट्टी से लथपथ थे। . और मंगू को लगा कि शायद लड्डू गोपाल की सांस भी चल रही है। . यह देकर एकदम से हैरान हो गया। वह भागा भागा लड्डू गोपाल को लेकर घर के अंदर गया और कीमती लाल की पत्नी को जाकर बोला.. . सेठानी जी यह देखो आपके बगीचे में से यह मुझे लड्डू गोपाल जी मिले हैं। . लड्डू गोपाल को देखकर कीमती लाल की पत्नी का रंग एकदम से पीला पड गया वह बोली तुम इसको क्यों निकाल कर लाए हो। . तो मंगु बोला कि वहां से मुझे रोज आवाज आती थी, आज मिट्टी को खोदा तो उसमें से यह निकले… . मालकिन चीखती हुई बोली बड़ी मुश्किल से मैंने इससे पीछा छुड़वाया था। . कीमती लाल के दो बेटे थे कीमती लाल की पत्नी अपने बेटों को बहुत ही प्यार करती थी उनको सुबह उठकर तैयार करती, नहलाती, स्कूल भेजती घर आते तो खाना खिलाती… . शाम को पढ़ाती रात को भी खाना खिलाकर लोरी सुना कर सुलाती। . कीमती लाल के घर एक लड्डू गोपाल जी भी थे जिसको कीमती लाल की माता जी बहुत ही मानती थी। . माता जी के स्वर्गवास होने के बाद कीमती लाल ने अपने मंदिर में उस लड्डू गोपाल को बड़ी श्रद्धा से रखा हुआ था। . कीमती लाल भी लड्डू गोपाल जी को बहुत ही मानता था। . लेकिन सेठानी जो थी उसको लड्डू गोपाल की सेवा करना बड़ी मुश्किल लगता था… . कि सुबह उठकर इन को स्नान करवाऊ तो मेरे बेटे को कोन नहलाएगा, बाद में इन को भोग लगाऊ तो मेरे बेटे को खाना कौन खिलाएगा… . रात को मैं इनको सुलाऊ तो मेरे बेटे को लोरी गाकर कोन सुलाएगा। बेटो के प्यार में वह अंधी हो चुकी थी। उसको यही बात बुरी लगती थी। . इसी कारण उसने एक दिन निश्चय किया और घर के बगीचे में जाकर लड्डू गोपाल जी को दबा दिया और कीमती लाल को बोल दिया कि लड्डू गोपाल जी चोरी हो गए हैं। . लड्डू गोपाल के चोरी होने पर कीमती लाल बहुत दुखी हुआ। लेकिन वह कर भी क्या सकता था। . आज जब गोपाल जी को लेकर मंगु सेठानी के पास आ गया तो सेठानी चिढ़ गई और उसको बोली कि तुम इसको क्यों निकाल कर लाए हो। . मंगू ने कहा कि अब मैं इसका क्या करूं.. . मालकिन ने कहा तुम लड्डू गोपाल जी को अपने पास रखो और दफा हो जाओ मेरे घर से आगे से यहां मत आना.. . क्योंकि सेठानी को डर था कि अगर यह सच कीमती लाल को मंगु ने बता दिया तो कीमती लाल उस पर बहुत गुस्सा करेगा और कीमती लाल की बीवी ने मंगु को नौकरी से निकाल दिया… . अपने आसपास रहने वाले घर के लोगों को ही कह दिया की मंगू चोर है मैंने उस को अपने घर से नौकरी से निकाल दिया है… . तुम लोग भी निकाल दो… तो सब लोगों ने कीमतीलाल की पत्नी की बात पर विश्वास कर लिया और मंगु को नौकरी से निकाल दिया। . मंगू इस बात से हैरान था कि मैंने क्या किया जो आज मुझे यह देख दिन देखना पड़ा.. . वह कपड़े में लड्डू गोपाल जी को लपेट कर अपने घर गया.. . वह रोता हुआ अपनी पत्नी को इशारों में बताता है कि यह लड्डू गोपाल जो मुझे सेठानी की घर से मिले.. लेकिन इसके मिलते ही मेरी सारी नौकरी छूट गई अब मैं इसका क्या करूं। । मंगु की पत्नी रुपाली ने बड़े प्यार से लड्डू गोपाल को पकड़ा उसके शरीर पर लगी मिट्टी और जो भी लगा हुआ था उसको झाड़ कर एक कपड़े में बांध कर रख दिया.. . ठाकुर जी को स्नान करा कर घर के कोने में बड़ी श्रद्धा से नीचे कपड़ा बिछा कर रख दिया। . मंगू जोकि बहुत उदास था उसको तो लग रहा था कि अब घर का गुजारा कैसे होगा.. . फिर उसने मन में सोचा कि लड्डू गोपाल के मिलते ही मेरी नौकरी चली गई। यह सब लड्डू गोपाल के कारण हुआ है… . लेकिन रुपाली ने उसको इशारों से समझाया कि लड्डू गोपाल जी भगवान है यह सब देख लेंगे जो होता है अच्छे के लिए होता है। . उसकी पत्नी ने कहा कि जो लड्डू गोपाल के शरीर से मिट्टी उतरी है इसको कहां रखु.. . मंगू उस समय जो झल्लाया हुआ था वह बोला अपने घर के बाहर जो आंगन में मिट्टी है वहां फैंक दो। . रूपाली ने वैसा ही किया। मंगु को चिंता के कारण नींद ना आई कि घर का गुजारा कैसे होगा लेकिन उसकी पत्नी तो बिल्कुल आराम से सोई थी… . ठाकुर जी को देखकर एक अजीब सा चैन मिला था और अजीब सी खुशी हुई थी और इसी आनन्द में वह सारी रात बड़ी सुकून से सोई। . सुबह जब मंगु उठा तो उसने देखा कि आंगन में जिस जगह पर ठाकुर जी के शरीर से मिट्टी उतार कर पत्नी ने फेंकी थी.. . उस जगह पर बहुत ही सुंदर फूल खिल गए हैं और उन फूलों की खुशबू सारे मोहल्ले में फैल गई। . सारे लोग सोचने लगे कि आज मोहल्ले में कैसी खुशबू आ रही हैं.. सब लोग देखने आए तो मंगु के आंगन में बहुत ही सुंदर फूल खिले हुए थे.. . तभी उधर से एक व्यक्ति गुजरा और उसने मंगु को कहा तूने अपने आंगन में इतने सुन्दर फूल खिला लिए हैं यह तो बहुत कीमती है… बाजार में तो इसकी बहुत कमाई होगी। . यह सुनकर मंगु हैरान हो गया वह हाथ जोड़ता हुआ ठाकुर जी के आगे गया और कहा कि मुझे क्षमा कर दो जो मैंने आप पर शंका की आपको सब का ख्याल है तो उसकी पत्नी मन्द मन्द मुस्कुराने लगी कि मंगु को भी अब ठाकुर जी पर विश्वास होने लगा है। . मंगू ने वो फूलों को उतार कर पहले कुछ फूलों को गोपाल जी के चरणों मे रखा.. बाकि फूल बाजार में बेचे उसको बहुत ही अच्छे दाम मिले.. . अब तो वह फूल हर रोज मंगु के आंगन में खिलने लगे और फूलों को बेचकर मंगु माली से मालिक बन गया। . मंगू और उसकी पत्नी ने यह निश्चय किया था कि कीमती लाल की बीवी ने अपने बच्चों की परवरिश के कारण लड्डू गोपाल जी को मिट्टी में दबा दिया था… . आज से लड्डू गोपाल जी ही हमारी संतान है ताकि हम भी अपनी संतान के कारण कहीं लड्डू गोपाल जी की तरफ हमारा झुकाव कम ना हो जाए। . अब मंगु एक बहुत ही बड़ा फूलों का व्यापारी बन चुका था। उसने बहुत बड़ा आलीशान मकान ले लिया था। . एक दिन मंगू जब घर पर नहीं था और रूपाली घर पर अकेली थी… . तभी एक औरत बहुत बुरी अवस्था में जिसका शरीर बुढ़ापे के कारण बहुत कमजोर हो चुका था और उसको आंखों से भी नजर नहीं आ रहा था.. . तभी वह रूपाली के दरवाजे पर आकर भूख के कारण जिससे खड़ा नहीं हुआ जा रहा था वह बेहोश होकर गिर गई। . रुपाली ने उसको जल्दी-जल्दी उठाया और अंदर ले गई.. . जब वह उठी तो उसने उस को भोजन कराया और इशारों से पूछा कि आप कौन हो… . लेकिन बहुत कमजोर होने के कारण वह कुछ ना बता सकी। . जब मंगू घर पर वापस आया तो उसने उस बूढ़ी औरत को देखा तो उसको पहचानने की कोशिश करने लगा। . तभी उसको ध्यान आया यह तो वही कीमती लाल की पत्नी है.. . उसने पूछा कि माता जी आपका यह हाल कैसा हो गया, तो कीमती लाल की पत्नी बोली तुम कौन हो। . मंगु ने बताया कि मैं वही आपका माली मंगु हूँ जिस पर आप ने चोरी का इल्जाम लगाकर सारे मोहल्ले से नौकरी से निकलवा दिया था। . लेकिन आपके मुझ पर बहुत उपकार हैं। आपकी दिए हुए लड्डू गोपाल के कारण ही आज मैं माली से मालिक बन गया हूँ। . कीमती लाल की पत्नी यह सुनकर फफक फफक कर रोने लगी और मंगू के पैरों में गिरती हुई बोली मुझे लड्डू गोपाल के पास ले चलो। . संतान के कारण मैंने लड्डू गोपाल जी को जमीन मे गाड़ दिया था आज वही संतान ने मुझे घर से बाहर निकाल दिया है। . मेरे पति की मौत के बाद ही मेरे बच्चों ने मुझे आंखे दिखानी शुरू कर दी। . मेरा सब कुछ छीन कर अपनी पत्नीयों के कहने पर मुझे घर से धक्के मार कर बाहर निकाल दिया। . शायद यह मेरे बुरे कर्मों का ही फल है जो मुझे मुझे सजा
