महाष्टमी

( दुर्गोत्सवभक्तितरङ्गिणी, देवीपुराणादि ) –

आश्विनी शुक्ल अष्टमीको देवीकी उपासनाके अनेक अनुष्ठान होते हैं, इस कारण यह महाष्टमी मानी जाती है । इसमें सप्तमीका वेध वर्जित और नवमीका ग्राह्य होता है । इस दिन देवी शक्ति धारण करती हैं और नवमीको पूजा समाप्त होती है; अतएव सप्तमीवेधसंयुक्त महाष्टमीको पूजनादि करनेसे पुत्र, स्त्री और धनकी हानि होती है । यदि अष्टमी मूलयुक्त और नवमी पूर्वाषाढ़ायुक्त हो अथवा दोनोंसे युक्त हो तो वह महानवमी होती है । यदि सूर्योदयके समय अष्टमी और सूर्यास्तके समय नवमी हो और भौमवार हो तो यह योग अधिक श्रेष्ठ होता है । महाष्टमीके प्रातःकालमें पवित्र होकर भगवतीकी वस्त्र, शस्त्र, छत्र, चामर और राजचिह्नादिसहित पूजा करे । यदि उस समय भद्रा हो तो सायंकालके समय करे और अर्द्धरात्रिमें बलिप्रदान करे । कई स्थानोंमें इस दिन ‘ अखिलकारिणी ‘ ( खिलगानी ) देवीका पूजन किया जाता है । वह भद्रावर्जित सायंकाल या प्रातःकाल किसीमें भी किया जा सकता है । उसमें त्रिशूलमात्रकी पूजा होती है ।

आज के दिन ही अन्नकूट पूजा यानी कन्या पूजन का भी विधान है। कुछ लोग नवमी के दिन भी कन्या पूजन करते हैं लेकिन अष्टमी के दिन कन्या पूजन करना श्रेष्ठ रहता है. इस पूजन में 9 कन्याओं को भोजन कराया जाता है अगर 9 कन्याएं ना मिले तो दो से भी काम चल जाता है. भोजन कराने के बाद कन्याओं को दक्षिणा देनी चाहिए. इस प्रकार महामाया भगवती प्रसन्नता से हमारे मनोरथ पूर्ण करती हैं

मान्यता है कि अष्टमी और नवमी के बदलाव वाले समय में मां दुर्गा अपनी शक्तियों को प्रकट करती हैं। इसलिए इस दिन एक विशेष प्रकार की पूजा की जाती है जिसे चामुंडा की सांध्यपूजा के नाम से जाना जाता है।

महाष्टमी के दिन सुबह स्नान करने के बाद व्यक्ति को देवी भगवती की पूरे विधि विधान से पूजा करनी चाहिए। माता की प्रतिमा अच्छे वस्त्रों से सुसज्जित रहनी चाहिए, प्रतिमा को सारे पारंपरिक हथियारों से लैस रहना चाहिए जैसे उनके सिर पर जो छत्र होता है उस पर एक चांदी या सोने की छतरी होनी चाहिए।
