मन पवित्र करो

छत्रपति शिवाजी के गुरु समर्थ रामदास मन की शुद्धि पर बहुत जोर दिया करते थे। वे कहा करते थे, जिसका मन कलुषित होता है, वह अपने परिवारजनों के साथ भी आनंदपूर्वक नहीं रह सकता।

दूसरी ओर जिसका मन निश्छल होता है, वह सहज ही सभी का विश्वास प्राप्त कर लेता है। समर्थ रामदास ने मन की पवित्रता और निश्छलता की प्रेरणा देने वाले 205 श्लोकों की मराठी में रचना की।

उनके शिष्यों ने मनाचे श्लोक (मन के श्लोक) नामक पुस्तक में उनका संकलन किया। समर्थ स्वामी ने अपने शिष्यों से कहा, ‘बिना कुछ दिए किसी गृहस्थ का भोजन ग्रहण करना भी उचित नहीं है।

इसलिए भिक्षा माँगते ही जब कोई घर से बाहर निकल आए, तो पहले उसे मन को पवित्र बनाने की प्रेरणा देने वाला श्लोक सुनाओ।’ स्वामीजी आगे कहते हैं

'मना वासना दुष्ट कामा न ये रे। मना सर्वथा पाप बुद्धि न की रे॥

यानी रे मन, बुरी वासना नहीं रखनी चाहिए। पाप मन में कदापि नहीं आने देना चाहिए। एक अन्य श्लोक में स्वामीजी कहते हैं, ‘हे मन, पाप का नहीं, सच्चाई का इरादा रख।

बुरे विचारों, विकार, विषय को अपने पास भी फटकने मत देना।’ उनका मत था कि जो जैसा कर्म करता है, उसे वैसा ही भोगना पड़ता है। अतः वह ऐसे सत्कर्म करने की प्रेरणा देते थे कि लोग हमेशा याद करें।

वे कहते थे, मन! तुम चंदन की तरह घिसकर दूसरे को अपनी सुगंध से आलोकित करते रहो। महाराष्ट्र में आज भी रामदासी संप्रदाय के संत मन पवित्र रखने का उपदेश देते घूमते हैं।

English Translation

Chhatrapati Shivaji’s guru Samarth Ramdas used to lay great emphasis on purification of mind. They used to say, one whose mind is polluted, he cannot live happily even with his family members.

On the other hand, one whose mind is pure, he easily gains the trust of all. Samarth Ramdas composed 205 verses in Marathi, inspiring purity of mind and calmness.

His disciples compiled him in a book called Manache Shloka (verses of the mind). Samarth Swami told his disciples, ‘It is not proper to take food from a householder without giving anything.

That is why when someone comes out of the house asking for alms, first recite the verse that inspires him to purify the mind.’ Swamiji continues.

‘Forbidden lust, do not do evil deeds. Forbidden absolutely sinful intellect.
That is, my mind, one should not have bad lust. Sin should never be allowed to enter the mind. In another verse Swamiji says, ‘O mind, aim for truth, not sin.

Don’t let bad thoughts, disorders, objects get to you also.’ He was of the opinion that whatever one does, he has to suffer the same way. Therefore, he used to inspire to do such good deeds that people always remember.

They used to say, mind! You rub like sandalwood and keep illuminating others with your fragrance. Even today in Maharashtra, the saints of the Ramdasi sect roam around preaching to keep the mind pure.
