विवाह के दो वर्ष हुए थे जब सुहानी गर्भवती होने पर अपने घर पंजाब जा रही थी …पति शहर से बाहर थे …
जिस रिश्ते के भाई को स्टेशन से ट्रेन मे बिठाने को कहा था वो लेट होती ट्रेन की वजह से रुकने में मूड में नहीं था इसीलिए समान सहित प्लेटफॉर्म पर बनी बेंच पर बिठा कर चला गया ….
गाड़ी को पांचवे प्लेटफार्म पर आना था …
गर्भवती सुहानी को सातवाँ माह चल रहा था. सामान अधिक होने से एक कुली से बात कर ली….
बेहद दुबला पतला बुजुर्ग…पेट पालने की विवशता उसकी आँखों में थी …एक याचना के साथ सामान उठाने को आतुर ….
सुहानी ने उसे पंद्रह रुपये में तय कर लिया और टेक लगा कर बैठ गई…. तकरीबन डेढ़ घंटे बाद गाडी आने की घोषणा हुई …लेकिन वो बुजुर्ग कुली कहीं नहीं दिखा …
कोई दूसरा कुली भी खाली नज़र नही आ रहा था…..ट्रेन छूटने पर वापस घर जाना भी संभव नही था …
रात के साढ़े बारह बज चुके थे ..सुहानी का मन घबराने लगा …
तभी वो बुजुर्ग दूर से भाग कर आता हुआ दिखाई दिया …. बोला चिंता न करो बिटिया हम चढ़ा देंगे गाडी में …भागने से उसकी साँस फूल रही थी ..उसने लपक कर सामान उठाया …और आने का इशारा किया
सीढ़ी चढ़ कर पुल से पार जाना था कयोकि अचानक ट्रेन ने प्लेटफार्म चेंज करा था जो अब नौ नम्बर पर आ रही थी
वो साँस फूलने से धीरे धीरे चल रहा था और सुहानी भी तेज चलने हालत में न थी
गाडी ने सीटी दे दी
भाग कर अपना स्लीपर कोच का डब्बा ढूंढा ….
डिब्बा प्लेटफार्म खत्म होने के बाद इंजिन के पास था। वहां प्लेटफार्म की लाईट भी नहीं थी और वहां से चढ़ना भी बहुत मुश्किल था ….
सुहानी पलटकर उसे आते हुए देख ट्रेन मे चढ़ गई…तुरंत ट्रेन रेंगने लगी …कुली अभी दौड़ ही रहा था …
हिम्मत करके उसने एक एक सामान रेलगाड़ी के पायदान के पास रख दिया ।
अब आगे बिलकुल अन्धेरा था ..
जब तक सुहानी ने हडबडाये कांपते हाथों से दस का और पांच का का नोट निकाला …
तब तक कुली की हथेली दूर हो चुकी थी…
उसकी दौड़ने की रफ़्तार तेज हुई ..
मगर साथ ही ट्रेन की रफ़्तार भी ….
वो बेबसी से उसकी दूर होती खाली हथेली देखती रही …
और फिर उसका हाथ जोड़ना नमस्ते
और आशीर्वाद की मुद्रा में ….
उसकी गरीबी …
उसका पेट ….
उसकी मेहनत …
उसका सहयोग …
सब एक साथ सुहानी की आँखों में कौंध गए ..
उस घटना के बाद सुहानी डिलीवरी के बाद दुबारा स्टेशन पर उस बुजुर्ग कुली को खोजती रही मगर वो कभी दुबारा नही मिला …
आज वो जगह जगह दान आदि करती है मगर आज तक कोई भी दान वो कर्जा नहीं उतार पाया उस रात उस बुजुर्ग की कर्मठ हथेली ने किया था …
सच है कुछ कर्ज कभी नही उतारे जा सकते……!

बात तय हुए अभी एक माह भी नही हुआ था, कि पब्लिक सर्विस कमीशन से पत्र आया कि अशोक का डिप्टी कलक्टर के पद पर चयन हो गया है।
चौबे- साले, नीच, कमीने… हरामजादे हैं कमीशन वाले…!
पत्नि- लड़के की इतनी अच्छी नौकरी लगी है नाराज क्यों होते हैं?
चौबे- अरे सरकार निकम्मी है, मैं तो कहता हूँ इस देश में क्रांति होकर रहेगी… यही पत्र कुछ दिन पहले नहीं भेज सकते थे, डिप्टी कलेक्टर का 40-50 लाख यूँ ही मिल जाता।
पत्नि- तुम्हारी भी अक्ल मारी गई थी, मैं न कहती थी महीने भर रुक जाओ, लेकिन तुम न माने… हुल-हुला कर सम्बन्ध तय कर दिया… मैं तो कहती हूँ मिश्रा जी को पत्र लिखिये वो समझदार आदमी हैं।

आपको जानकर प्रसन्नता होगी कि ममता का चयन आईएएस के लिए हो गया है। कलेक्टर बन कर आयुष्मति की यह इच्छा है कि अपने अधीनस्थ कर्मचारी से वह विवाह नहीं करेगी।
