माना जाता है कि सोलह सोमवार रखने से घर में सुख और समृद्धि आती है और घर का कलेह का नाश होता है रोगों से मुक्ति मिलती है और पति पत्नी के संबंधों में भी मधुरता बढ़ती है महादेव भोलेनाथ को प्रसन्न करने के लिए सोलह सोमवार का व्रत एक अति उत्तम व्रत बताया गया है चलिए जानते है हम यह अति फलदायी सोलह सोमवार की कथा, मृत्यु लोक में विवाह करने की इच्छा के एक समय श्री महादेव जी माता पार्वती के साथ पधारे वहां भ्रमण करते-करते अमरावती नाम की एक अति सुंदर नगरी में पहुंचे | अमरावती नगरी सब प्रकार के सुखों से परिपूर्ण थी उसमें वहां के महाराजा द्वारा बनवाया गया बहुत ही सुंदर ही शिव जी का मंदिर था | वहां शंकर और भगवती पार्वती के साथ निवास करने लगे | एक समय माता पार्वती ने भगवान शिव से चौसार खेलने की इच्छा प्रकट की, भगवान शिव ने उनकी बात को मान लिया और चौसार खेलने लगे, उसी समय उस स्थान पर मंदिर का पुजारी, मंदिर में पूजा करने के लिए आया तो माता पार्वती ने उससे पूछा, इस चौसार में हम दोनों में किसकी जीत होगी | ब्राह्मण ने बिना सोचे ही बोल दिया कि महादेव जी की जीत होगी | परंतु जब बाजी समाप्त हुई तो महादेव जी हार गए और माता पार्वती की विजय हुई, अब तो माता पार्वती जी ने ब्राह्मण को झूठ बोलने केअपराध के कारण श्राप देने के लिए तैयार हो गई, महादेव जी ने माता पार्वती को बहुत
समझाया परंतु माता पार्वती जी ने ब्राह्मण को कोड़ी होने का श्राप दे दिया| कुछ ही समय बाद ब्राह्मण के पूरे शरीर में कोड पैदा हो गया इस प्रकार पुजारी अनेक प्रकार से दुखी रहने लगा इस तरह के कष्ट भोगते भोगते बहुत दिन हो गए | एक दिन, देव लोक की अप्सराएं शिवजी की पूजा करनी उसी मंदिर में पधारी और पुजारी के कोड के कष्ट को देख बड़े दया भाव से उससे कोड़ी होने का कारण पूछने लगे, तब पुजारी ने निसंकोच उनसे सब बातें कह बतायी | तब वह अप्सरा बोली. भगवान शिव जी तुम्हारे कष्ट को दूर कर देंगे | तुम सर्वश्रेष्ठ व्रतों में से एक, सोलह सोमवार का व्रत करो | पुजारी अप्सराओं से हाथ जोड़ कर विनम्र भाव से सोलह सोमवार व्रत की विधि पूछने लगे तब अप्सराओं बोली, जिस दिन सोमवार हो उस दिन भक्ति के साथ व्रत करें स्वच्छ वस्त्र पहने और आधा सेर गेहूं का आटा ले और उसके 3 भाग बनाए, घी, गुड़, दीप, नैवेध ,पुंगी फल बेलपत्र जनेऊ जोड़ा चंदन अक्षत पुष्प आदि के द्वारा, प्रदोष काल में भगवान शंकर का विधि से पूजन करें, तत्पश्चात तीन अंगों में से एक शिवजी को अर्पण करें , बाकी दो अंगों को प्रसाद समझकर उपस्थित जनों में बांट दें और आप भी प्रसाद ले, इस विधि से सोलह सोमवार व्रत करें तत्पश्चात 17 सोमवार के दिन, गेहूं के आटे की बाटी बनाए, तदनुसार घी और गुड़ मिलाकर चूरमा बनाएं | शिव जी का भोग लगाकर उपस्थित लोगों में बांटे | आप सह कुटुम प्रसादी ले, शिव जी की कृपा से सबके मनोरथ पूर्ण हो जाते हैं | ऐसा कहकर अप्सराएं स्वर्ग को चली गई , ब्राह्मण ने यह विधि से सोलह सोमवार व्रत किया तथा भगवान शिव जी की कृपा से रोग मुक्त होकर आनंद से रहने लगा | कुछ दिन बाद जब शिवजी और पार्वती उस मंदिर में पधारे, तब ब्राह्मण को निरोग देखकर पार्वती ने ब्राह्मण से रोग मुक्त होने का कारण पूछा तो ब्राह्मण ने सोलह सोमवार
व्रत कथा सुनाई तब तो पार्वती जी ने प्रसन्न होकर ब्राह्मण से व्रत की विधि पूछ कर, व्रत को खुद करने को तैयार हुई , ऐसा करने के बाद उनकी मनोकामना पूर्ण हुई तथा उनके रूठे हुए पुत्र स्वामी कार्तिकेय स्वयं माता के आज्ञाकारी हुए | कार्तिकेय जी को अपने अंदर यह विचार परिवर्तन का रहस्य जानने की बहुत इच्छा हुई और अपने माता से बोले हे माता जी आपने ऐसा कौन सा उपाय किया जिससे मेरा मन आपकी और आकर्षित हुआ तब पार्वती जी ने वही सोलह सोमवार की कथा श्री कार्तिक जी को सुनाई, मैं भी इस व्रत को करूंगा क्योंकि मेरा प्रिय ब्राह्मण मित्र, बहुत दिन से प्रदेश गया है उसे बहुत दिन से मिलने की इच्छा है कार्तिकेय जी ने भी अपनी इस इच्छा को पूरा करने के लिए सोलह सोमवार का व्रत किया | मित्र ने उसकी अकस्मात मिलन का कार्तिकेय जी से कारण पूछा तो वह बोले थे मित्र हमने तुम्हारे मिलने की इच्छा से मन में बड़ी श्रद्धा से, सोलह सोमवार का व्रत रखा उसी का फल यह मुझे मिला कि मुझे तुम्हें हमसे मिलने का अवसर मिला | अब तो ब्राह्मण मित्र भी अपने विवाह की बड़ी इच्छा हुई और इसलिए कार्तिकेय जी से इस व्रत की विधि पूछी तथा यथा विधिवत व्रत किया, व्रत के प्रभाव से जब वह किसी कार्य वश विदेश गया, तो वहां के राजा के लड़की का स्वयंवर था राजा ने प्रण किया कि जिस राजकुमार के गले में, हथिनी माला डालेगी मैं उसी के साथ अपनी प्यारी पुत्री का विवाह कर दूंगा | शिव जी की कृपा से ब्राह्मण स्वयंवर देखने की इच्छा से राजसभा में एक और बैठ गया नियुक्त हथनी आई , उसने जयमाला उस ब्राह्मण के गले में डाल दी | राजा की प्रतिज्ञा के अनुसार बड़ी धूमधाम से उस कन्या का विवाह उस ब्राह्मण के साथ कर दिया और ब्राह्मण को बहुत सा धन और सम्मान देकर संतुष्ट किया | 1 दिन राजकन्या ने अपने पति से प्रश्न किया हे प्राणनाथ आपने ऐसा कौन सा पूर्ण किया जिसके प्रभाव से हथिनी ने सब राजकुमारों को छोड़कर आप का वरन किया |
ब्राह्मण बोला है प्राण प्रिय, मैंने अपनी मित्र कार्तिकेय जी से सोलह सोमवार की व्रत की विधि पूछी और उस व्रत को बड़ी श्रद्धा से किया | जिसके प्रभाव से मुझे तुम जैसी स्वरूपवान लक्ष्मी की प्राप्ति हुई व्रत की महिमा को सुनकर राजकन्या को बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ और वह भी पुत्र की कामना करके व्रत करने लगी| शिव जी की दया
से उसकी गर्भ से एक अति सुंदर, सुशील, धर्मात्मा पुत्र उत्पन्न हुआ | माता-पिता , पुत्र को पाकर अति प्रसन्न हुए और उसका लालन-पालन भली प्रकार से करने लगे | जब पुत्र समझदार हुआ तो एक दिन उसने अपनी माता से प्रश्न किया, मां तुमने ऐसा कौन सा तप किया जो मेरे जैसा पुत्र तुम्हारे गर्भ से उत्पन्न हुआ | माता ने पुत्र
का मनोरथ जानकर अपने किए हुए सोलह सोमवार व्रत को विधि सम्मुख प्रकट किया | पुत्र ने ऐसे सरल व्रत को और सब तरह के मनोरथ पूर्ण करने वाला सुना, तो वह भी इस व्रत को राज्य अधिकार पाने की इच्छा से हर सोमवार को यथा विधि करने लगा | उसी समय एक देश के वृद्ध राजा के दूतो ने राजा की कन्या के लिए उस ब्राह्माण का वरन किया |
राजा ने अपनी पुत्री का विवाह ऐसे सर्वगुण संपन्न के साथ करके बड़ा सुख प्राप्त किया | राजा के दिवंगत हो जाने पर यह ब्राह्मण बालक राज गद्दी पर बिठाया गया क्योंकि दिवंगत राजा के कोई पुत्र नहीं था राज्य का अधिकारी होकर भी वह ब्राह्मण पुत्र सोलह सोमवार के व्रत को करता रहा | जब सत्रवा सोमवार आया तब
पुत्र ने अपने प्रियतमा से सब पूजन सामग्री लेकर शिवालय में चलने के लिए कहा, परंतु प्रियतमा ने उसकी आज्ञा की परवाह ना की और दास दासी द्वारा सारी सामग्री शिवालय भिजवा दी पर आप नहीं गई | जब राजा ने शिव का पूजन समाप्त किया तब एक आकाशवाणी हुई | राजा ने सुना – है राजा, अपनी इस रानी को राज महल से निकाल दे, नहीं तो यह तेरा सर्वनाश कर देगी| ऐसी वाणी को सुनकर राजा के आश्चर्य का ठिकाना नहीं रहा और तत्काल मंत्रालय में आकर अपनी सभासदों को बुलाकर पूछने लगा – हे मंत्रियों, मुझे आज शिव जी की वाणी हुई है कि राजा तू अपनी इस रानी को राजमहल से निकाल दे, नहीं तो यह तेरा सर्वनाश कर देगी | मंत्री आदि सब बड़े विस्मय और दुख में डूब गए क्योंकि जिस कन्या के कारण राज्य मिला, राजा उसी को निकालने की बात कर रहा है | यह कैसे हो सकता है, अंत में राजा ने अपने राज्य से निकाल दिया | रानी दुखी हृदय से, भाग्य को कोसते हुए नगर के बाहर कटे – फटे वस्त्र पहने, भूख से दुखी, धीरे-धीरे चलकर, रानी एक नगर में पहुंची | वहां पर एक बुढ़िया सूत कातकर बेचने जाती थी, रानी की यह दशा देख बुढ़िया बोली, चल तू मेरा सूत बिकवा दे | रानी ने बुढ़िया के सिर से सूत की पोटली उतार कर अपने सिर पर रखी, पर थोड़ी देर बाद आंधी आई और बुढ़िया का सूत पोटली सहित उड़ गया | बेचारी बुढ़िया बहुत पछताने लगी |
अब रानी एक तेली के घर गई तो तेली के सब मटके शिवजी के प्रकोप के कारण उसी समय चटक गए इस प्रकार रानी अत्यंत दुख पाते हुए नदी के तट पर गई तो नदी का समस्त जल सुख गया | तत्पश्चात रानी एक वन में गई वहां जाकर सरोवर में सीढ़ी से उतरकर पानी पीने लगी, हाथ से जल स्पर्श होते ही सरोवर के नीलकमल जैसे जल में असंख्य्क कीड़े पड़ गए और वह पानी गंदा हो गया रानी ने अपने भाग्य पर दोषारोपण करते हुए उस जल को पान करके पेड़ की शीतल छाया में विश्राम करना चाहा, रानी जिस पेड़ के नीचे
जाती उस पेड़ के पत्ते भी गिरने लगते | वन, सरोवर, जल की ऐसी दशा देखकर गौऊ चराते गुसाई जी ने एक मंदिर में पुजारी को सारी बात सुनाई, गुसाई जी के आदेश अनुसार वो रानी को पकड़कर गुसाई के पास लेकर गए | रानी के मुख् कांति और शरीर की शोभा देखकर गुसाईं जान गए यह अवश्य विधि की गति की मारी
कुलीन अभला है, ये सोच पुजारी जी ने रानी से कहा, मैं तुम्हे पुत्री के समान रखूंगा तुम मेरे आश्रम में ही रहो मैं तुम्हें किसी प्रकार का कष्ट नहीं होने दूंगा | गौसाई के ऐसे वचन सुन कर रानी को धीरज हुआ और वह आश्रम में रहने लगी परंतु आश्रम में जो भोजन बनाती है उसमें कीड़े पड़ जाते, जल भर के लाती उसमें भी कीड़े पड़ जाते, अब तो गुसाई जी भी दुखी हुए और रानी से बोले हैं बेटी तेरे ऊपर कौन से देवता का प्रकोप है जिससे तुम्हारी ऐसी दशा है पुजारी की बात सुन, रानी ने शिवजी की पूजा में ना जाने की कथा सुनाई तो पुजारी जी महादेव की अनेक प्रकार से स्तुति करते हुए रानी से बोले हैं पुत्री तुम सब मनोरथ को पूर्ण करने वाले सोलह
सोमवार का व्रत विधि सहित रखो | गुसाईं की बात मानकर, रानी ने सोलह सोमवार की व्रत विधि व संपन्न किया और सत्तरवा सोमवार को पूजन के प्रभाव से राजा के हृदय में विचार उत्पन्न हुआ की रानी को गए बहुत समय व्यतीत हो गया ना जाने कहां-कहां भटकती होगी, उसे ढूंढना चाहिए | यह सोच कर रानी की तलाश करने के लिए राजा ने चारों दिशाओं में अपने दूत भेजें, वे तलाश करते हुए पुजारी के आश्रम में पहुंचे |दूत आश्रम में रानी को देखकर बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और पुजारी से कहने लगे रानी को हमारे साथ भेजने की आज्ञा दीजिए, परंतु पुजारी ने उनको खाली हाथ लौटा दिया | दूतो ने राजमहल में जाकर सारे बात सुनाई | तब महाराज पुजारी के आश्रम में आए पुजारी से प्रार्थना करने लगे महाराज जो स्त्री आपके आश्रम में रहती है वह मेरी पत्नी है शिवजी के कोप से मैंने उसको त्याग दिया था | अब इस पर से शिवजी का कोप शांत हो गया है इसलिए मैं इसे लेने आया हूं आपके इसको मेरे साथ जाने की आज्ञा दे दीजिए | गुसाई ने राजा के वचन को सत्य समझकर रानी को राजा के साथ जाने की आज्ञा दी | गुसाई की आज्ञा पाकर रानी प्रसन्न हो राजा के साथ महल में आई | महारानी का जोरदार तरीके से स्वागत हुआ| पंडितों ने विविध वेद मंत्रों का उच्चारण करके अपनी राजरानी का स्वागत किया | ऐसी अवस्था में रानी ने अपनी राजधानी में प्रवेश किया | इस प्रकार से राजा शिवजी की कृपा का पात्र हूं राजधानी में रानी के साथ अनेक तरह के सुखों का भोग करते हुए सोमवार का व्रत रखने लगे | ऐसे ही जो मनुष्य मंशा वाचक कर्मा भक्ति सहित सोलह सोमवार का व्रत पूजन इत्यादि विधिवत करता है वह इस लोक में समस्त सुखों को भोगकर, अंत में शिवपुरी को प्राप्त होता है | यह व्रत सब मनोरथ हों को पूर्ण करने वाला है

The priest started asking the Apsaras the method of fasting on sixteen Mondays with a humble gesture, then the Apsaras said, on the day of Monday, fast with devotion, wear clean clothes and take half a serving of wheat flour and make 3 parts of it, Ghee, Jaggery , Deep, Naivedh, Pungi fruit, Belpatra, Janeu, sandalwood, Akshat flower, etc. Worship Lord Shankar with the method during Pradosh period, then offer one of the three parts to Shiva, consider the other two parts as Prasad and distribute it among the people present. With a sad heart, cursing fate, wearing mutilated clothes outside the city, suffering from hunger, walking slowly, the queen reached a city. There an old lady used to spin and sell yarn, seeing this condition of the queen, the old lady said, Come on, sell my yarn. The queen took off the cotton bundle from the old lady’s head and placed it on her head, but after a while a storm came and the old woman’s yarn flew away with the bundle. The poor old woman started to regret a lot.
Now when the queen went to the house of a teller, then all the pots of the telly got cracked at the same time due to the wrath of Shiva, thus the queen went to the bank of the river feeling very sad, then all the water of the river dried up. After that the queen went to a forest there and started drinking water after coming down from the ladder in the lake, as soon as she touched the water with her hand, innumerable insects fell in the water like Nilkamal of the lake and that water became dirty, the queen blamed her fate on that water After drinking, she wanted to rest in the cool shade of the tree, the tree under which the queen
Even the leaves of that tree started falling. Seeing such condition of forest, lake, water, Gusai ji grazing cow narrated the whole thing to the priest in a temple, according to Gusai ji’s orders, he took the queen and took her to Gusai. Seeing the beauty of the queen’s face and body, the anger knew that it must have killed the speed of the law.
The noble is good, thinking this, the priest said to the queen, I will keep you like a daughter, you stay in my ashram, I will not let you suffer any kind of trouble. Hearing such words of Gausai, the queen was patient and went to the ashram. But the food that she cooks in the ashram would have worms in it, even when she brought water, Gusai ji was also sad and said to the queen, daughter, which god’s wrath is on you, so that your condition is like this. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Have listened to the priest, the queen narrated the story of not going to worship Shiva, then the priest, praising Mahadev in many ways, said to the queen, daughter, you are sixteen who fulfill all your desires.

Now Shiva’s anger has subsided on this, so I have come to take it, you allow him to go with me. Gusai, considering the king’s word to be true, ordered the queen to accompany the king. The queen was pleased after getting Gusai’s order and came to the palace with the king. The Queen was warmly welcomed. The pundits welcomed their queen by reciting various Veda mantras. In such a state the queen entered her capital. In this way, I am worthy of the blessings of King Shiva, while enjoying many kinds of pleasures with the queen in the capital, I started fasting on Mondays. In the same way, the person who performs the fasting of sixteen Mondays with devotion and devotion, after enjoying all the pleasures in this world, reaches Shivpuri in the end. This fast is going to fulfill all the desires.
