रामनाम और महात्मा गांधी

राजस्थान के लक्ष्मणगढ़ निवासी बालूराम अढ़तिया रामनाम के आढ़ती के नाम से विख्यात थे। वे अपने साथ एक बही रखते और किसी भी प्रमुख व्यक्ति के पास पहुंचकर उनसे प्रार्थना करते कि आप इस बही में अपने हाथ से लिखें कि भगवान के इतने हजार नामों का जप प्रतिदिन किया करेंगे।

एक बार गांधीजी मुंबई आए हुए थे। आढ़तिया भाई हनुमान प्रसाद पोद्दार जी के साथ पहुंचे। उन्होंने गांधीजी से प्रार्थना की आप राष्ट्र की स्वाधीनता के संकल्प को पूरा करने के उद्देश्य से प्रतिदिन राम-नाम जाप का संकल्प लें तथा मेरी इस बही में हस्ताक्षर कर दें। गांधीजी पास बैठे जमनालाल बजाज की ओर देखकर मुस्कुराए तथा बोले, आप मुझे जाप की संख्या सीमा में क्यों बांधते हैं?

मैं जब अफ्रीका में था तब संख्या ध्यान में रखकर राम-नाम का जाप करता था। परंतु अब तो जब समय मिलता है राम-नाम का जाप करता रहता हूं।

गांधीजी ने हनुमान प्रसाद पोद्दार की ओर देखते हुए कहा, भाई जी, रामनाम ने तो मेरी लंदन में पग-पग पर रक्षा की। इस नाम में अपार शक्ति है। आप इसका प्रचार कर जन कल्याण का कार्य कर रहे हैं।

Baluram Adartiya, a resident of Laxmangarh, Rajasthan, was famous as the name of Ramnam. They kept a book with him and approached any prominent person and prayed to him that you should write with your hand in this book that chanting of thousands of names of God will be done daily.

Once Gandhiji was in Mumbai. Ardtia brother Hanuman Prasad arrived with Poddar ji. He prayed to Gandhiji for the purpose of fulfilling the determination of the nation’s independence, take a pledge of Ram-Nam every day and sign it in my book. Looking at Jamnalal Bajaj sitting near Gandhiji smiled and said, why do you bind me to the number of chant?

When I was in Africa, keeping the numbers in mind, I used to chant Ram. But now when I get the time I keep on chanting Ram-Namya.

Looking at Hanuman Prasad Poddar, Gandhiji said, “Brother, Ramnam has protected me in London.” This name has immense power. You are doing public welfare by promoting it.
