छोटी बुराई, बड़ी बुराई के लिए रास्ता खोलती है

नौशेरवां ईरान का बड़ी ही न्यायप्रिय बादशाह था। छोटी सी छोटी चीजों में भी न्याय की तुला उसके हाथ में रहती थी। सबसे अधिक ध्यान वह अपने आचरण पर रखता था।

एक बार बादशाह जंगल की सैर करने गया। उसके साथ कुछ नौकर चाकर भी थे। घूमते-घूमते वह शहर से काफी दूर निकल आए। इस बीच बादशाह को भूख लगी। बादशाह ने सेवकों से कहा कि यहीं भोजन बनाने की व्यवस्था की जाए। खाना वहीं तैयार किया गया। बादशाह जब खाना खाने बैठा तो उसे सब्जी में नमक कम लगा। उसने अपने सेवकों से कहा कि जाओ और गांव से नमक लेकर आओ।

दो कदम पर गांव था। एक नौकर जाने को हुआ तो बादशाह ने कहा, ‘देखो जितना नमक लाओ, उतना पैसा दे आना।’

नौकर ने यह सुना तो बादशाह की ओर देखा। बोला, ‘सरकार नमक जैसी चीज के लिए कौन पैसा लेगा आप उसकी फिक्र क्यों करते हैं?’

बादशाह ने कहा, ‘नहीं तुम उसे पैसे देकर आना।’ नौकर बड़े आदर से बोला, ‘हुजूर, जो आपको नमक देगा, उसके लिए कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ेगा, उल्टे खुशी होगी कि वह अपने बादशाह की सेवा में अपना अमूल्य योगदान दे रहा है।’

तब बादशाह बोला, ‘यह मत भूलो की छोटी चीजों से ही बड़ी चीजें बनती हैं। छोटी बुराई, बड़ी बुराई के लिए रास्ता खोलती है। अगर में किसी पेड़े से एक फल तोड़ता हूं। तो मेरे सिपाही उस पेड़ पर एक भी फल नहीं छोड़ेंगे। मुमकिन है, ईंधन के लिए पेड़ को ही काटकर ले जाएं। ठीक है एक फल की कोई कीमत नहीं होती, लेकिन बादशाह की जरा सी बात से कितना बड़ा अन्याय हो सकता है। जो हुकूमत की गद्दी पर बैठता है, उसे हर घड़ी चौकन्ना रहना पड़ता है।’

The King said, ‘No, you give him money.’ The servant said with great respect, ‘Hujoor, who will give you salt, will not make any difference to him, he will be happy to recieve that he is making an invaluable contribution in the service of his emperor.’

Then the king said, ‘Do not forget that only small things make big things happen. Small evil opens up the path for big evil. If I break a fruit from any tree. So my soldiers will not leave any fruit on that tree. It is possible, only cut trees for fuel. Well there is no cost of a fruit, but how much big injustice can be done by the king’s little talk.
