स्वामी विवेकानंद की प्रेरक कहानी – घमंड कभी न करने का ज्ञान

तो बात उस समय की है, जब स्वामी विवेकानंद अपने लोकप्रिय शिकागो धर्म सम्मेलन के भाषण के बाद भारत वापस आ गये थे। अब उनकी चर्चा विश्व के हर देश में हो रही थी। सब लोग उन्हें जानने लगे थे।

स्वामी जी भारत वापस आकर अपने स्वभाव अनुरूप भ्रमण कर रहे थे। इस समय वे हिमालय और इसके आसपास के क्षेत्रों में थे। एक दिन वो घूमते घूमते एक नदी के किनारे आ गये।  वहां उन्होंने देखा कि एक नाव है पर वह किनारा छोड़ चुकी है। तब वे नाव के वापस आने के इंतजार में वहीं किनारे पर बैठ गए।

एक साधु वहां से गुजर रहा था। साधु ने स्वामी जी को वहां अकेला बैठा देखा तो वह स्वामी जी के पास गया और उनसे पूछा, तुम यहां क्यों बैठे हुए हो?

स्वामी जी ने जवाब दिया, मैं यहां नाव का इंतजार कर रहा हूं।

साधु ने फिर पूछा, तुम्हारा नाम क्या है?

स्वामी जी ने कहा, मैं विवेकानंद हूं।

साधु ने स्वामी जी का मजाक उड़ाते हुए उनसे कहा, अच्छा! तो तुम वो विख्यात विवेकानंद हो जिसको लगता है कि विदेश में जा कर भाषण दे देने से तुम बहुत बड़े महात्मा साधु बन सकते हो।

स्वामी जी ने साधु को कोई जवाब नहीं दिया।

फिर साधु ने बहुत ही घमंड के साथ, नदी के पानी के ऊपर चल कर अपनी शक्ति का प्रदर्शन किया।

कुछ दूर तक चलने के बाद साधु ने स्वामी जी कहा, क्या तुम मेरी तरह पानी पर पैदल चल कर इस नदी को पार कर सकते हो?

स्वामी जी ने बहुत ही आदर और विनम्रता के साथ साधु से कहा, इस बात में कोई शक नहीं कि आपके पास बहुत ही अद्भुत शक्ति है। लेकिन क्या आप मुझे यह बता सकते हो, कि आपको यह असाधारण शक्ति प्राप्त करने में कितना समय लगा। बहुत ही अभिमान के साथ साधु ने जवाब दिया, यह बहुत ही कठिन कार्य था। मैंने बीस सालों की कठिन तपस्या  और साधना के बाद यह महान शक्ति प्राप्त की है।

साधु का यह बताने का अंदाज बहुत ही अहंकार भरा था।

यह देख कर स्वामी जी बहुत ही शांत स्वर में बोले, आपने अपनी जिन्दगी के बीस साल ऐसी विद्या को सीखने में बर्बाद कर दिए, जो काम एक नाव पांच मिनिट में कर सकती है। आप ये बीस साल निर्धन बेसहारा गरीबों की सेवा में लगा सकते थे। या अपने ज्ञान और शक्ति का प्रयोग देश और देशवासियों की प्रगति में लगा सकते थे। परंतु आपने अपने बीस साल सिर्फ पांच मिनट बचाने के लिए व्यर्थ कर दिए, ये कोई बुद्धिमानी नहीं है।

साधु सिर झुकाए खड़े रह गये और स्वामी जी नाव में बैठ कर नदी के दूसरी किनारे चले गए।

कहानी से सीख:

इस प्रकार इस कहानी ने हमें बताया कि ज्ञान और शक्ति का सही प्रयोग आवश्यक है। किसी शक्ति को प्राप्त कर के यदि हम उस पर घमंड करते है तो यह मूर्खता है। शक्ति का सही जगह पर सही इस्तेमाल करना ही वास्तविकता में बुद्धिमानी है।

So it is about the time when Swami Vivekananda returned to India after his popular Chicago Dharma Conference speech. Now he was being discussed in every country of the world. Everyone started getting to know him.

Swamiji came back to India and was traveling according to his nature. At this time they were in the Himalayas and its surrounding areas. One day while roaming around, he came to the bank of a river. There he saw that there was a boat but it had left the shore. Then they sat there on the shore waiting for the boat to return.

A monk was passing by. When the monk saw Swamiji sitting there alone, he went to Swamiji and asked him, why are you sitting here?

Swamiji replied, I am here waiting for the boat.

The monk asked again, what is your name?

Swamiji said, I am Vivekananda.

The sadhu made fun of Swamiji and said to him, good! So you are that famous Vivekananda who feels that by going abroad and giving speeches, you can become a very great Mahatma Sadhu.

Swamiji did not give any answer to the sadhu.

Then the monk, with great pride, demonstrated his power by walking on the water of the river.

After walking for some distance, the monk said to Swamiji, can you cross this river by walking on water like me?

Swamiji said to the monk with great respect and humility, there is no doubt that you have a wonderful power. But can you tell me, how long did it take you to get this extraordinary power? The monk replied with great pride, it was a very difficult task. I have attained this great power after twenty years of hard penance and sadhana.

The way of telling this of the monk was very arrogant.

Seeing this, Swamiji said in a very calm voice, you have wasted twenty years of your life in learning such a knowledge, which a boat can do in five minutes. You could have spent these twenty years in the service of the poor destitute. Or could use his knowledge and power in the progress of the country and the countrymen. But you wasted your twenty years just to save five minutes, that is not wise.

The sadhus remained standing with their heads bowed and Swamiji sat in the boat and went to the other side of the river.

Lessons learned from the story:
Thus this story told us that right use of knowledge and power is essential. Having acquired some power, if we boast about it, then it is foolish. In reality, it is wise to use the power in the right place.
