ध्यान रखिए ताकि छलके नहीं दूध का मर्तबान

शुकदेव को उनके पिता ने परामर्श दिया कि वे महराज जनक की शरण में जाकर दीक्षा ग्रहण करें। पिता के परामर्श से शुकदेव महराज जनक के दरबार जा पहुंचे और राजा जनक से दीक्षा देने का अनुरोध किया।

जनक ने शुकदेव की परीक्षा लेने से पहले उनकी परीक्षा लेने के उद्देश्य से उनके हाथ में दूध का कटोरा दिया और उनसे कहा कि इस कटोरे को हाथ में लेकर मिथिला नगर घूमकर आओ याद रखना कटोरे या कहें मर्तबान (मर्तबान चीनी मिट्टी का गोलाकार पात्र होता है प्राचीन समय इसका प्रयोग तरल पदार्थ, अचार, मुरब्बे तथा रसायन आदि रखने के लिए किया जाता था) से दूध की एक बूंद न छलके।

शुकदेव ने आज्ञा मान ली और दूध के कटोरे को बिना छलकाए मिथिला घूमकर वापस आ गए। यह देखकर महराज जनक बहुत खुश हुए और उन्होंने शुकदेव से पूछा कि उन्होंने मिथिला घूमते हुए क्या देखा?

शुकदेव बोले मैं मिथिला घूमने के बाद भी कुछ नहीं देख पाया क्यों कि मेरा पूरा ध्यान दूध के कटोरे पर था वह किसी तरह भी न छलक पाए। जनक ने कहा यही एकाग्रता योग है। इसे जीवन भर साधते रहो, यही मेरी दीक्षा है।

Shukdev accepted the order and came back after visiting the mithila of the milk bowl without spraying it. Seeing this, Maharaj was very happy and he asked Shukdev what he saw while roaming Mithila?

Shukdev said, I did not see anything after visiting Mithila because my whole mind was on the milk bowl, he could not leak in any way. The parent said that this is concentration yoga. Keep doing this throughout life, that is my initiation.
