ज़िंदगी भर इनके पीछे भागते हैं हम

एक जंगल में एक लोमड़ी रहती थी। अमूमन वह सुबह जल्दी जाग जाती थी, लेकिन उस दिन थोड़ा देर से जागी। लोमड़ी जैसे ही अपने घर से बाहर आई तो उसकी पूंछ सूरज की ओर थी। छाया सामने पड़ रही थी। छाया देखकर लोमड़ी को पहली बार अपने शरीर का स्वरूप पता चला।

छाया में उसका रूप बहुत बड़ा दिखाई दे रहा था। तब लोमड़ी ने सोचा, क्यों ने किसी बड़े जीव का शिकार किया जाए। बस ! यही भ्रम में वह इतनी उतावली हो गई कि घने जंगल में बड़े शिकार की चाह लिए पहुंच गई।

सूरज अब तक सिर पर चढ़ आया था। लोमड़ी को भूख भी बहुत लग रही थी। उसने सोचा क्यों ना आज हाथी का शिकार किया जाए। भूखी लोमड़ी हाथी की तलाश में इधर-उधर भटकने लगी। वह थक गई और एक जगह आराम करने लगी। लेकिन आसमान में सूर्य की दिशा बदल चुकी थी।

लोमड़ी को उसकी छाया छोटी दिखाई दे रही थी। लोमड़ी ने सोचा कि मेरा आकार तो इतना छोटा है क्यों न अब मैं छोटे जीव का शिकार करूं, मेरे लिए तो एक मेंढ़क ही काफी है। मैं बेकार में छाया के भ्रम के चलते इधर-उधर भटक रही थी। उस जब इस बात का ज्ञान हुआ तो उसने अपने एक छोटा शिकार किया और भोजन के बाद एक गहरी नींद में किसी पेड़ के नीचे सो गई।

The fox was looking small on his shadow. The fox thought that my shape is so small, why do not I now prey on small creatures, only a frog for me is enough. I was wandering around because of the illusion of shadow. When he got knowledge of this, he hunted a little, and after a meal he slept under a tree in a deep sleep.
