जब एक परोपकारी संत सेरोपियो ने दी धर्म की सीख

संत सेरोपियो मिस्र देश के निवासी थे। वह बड़े ही परोपकारी थे। दूसरों की सेवा करना, उन्हें सुकून देता था। संत हमेशा ही मोटे कपड़े का चोंगा पहनते थे। एक दिन उनके चोगे को फटा देखकर एक व्यक्ति ने उनसे कहा, ‘आपका चोगा तो फट गया है। उसके बदले नया चोगा क्यों नहीं पहनते।’

तब संत ने कहा, ‘भाई बात यह है कि मैं यह मानता हूं कि एक इंसान को दूसरे इंसान की मदद करनी चाहिए। इसके लिए उसे अपने शरीर का बिल्कुल ख्याल नहीं करना करना चाहिए। यही धर्म की सीख है और आदेश भी।’

उस व्यक्ति ने हैरान होकर पूछा, ‘धर्म की सीख?’ जरा वह ग्रंथ तो दिखाएं, जिसमें ऐसा आदेश और सीख दी हुई है। संत सेरोपियो ने कहा, ‘ग्रंथ मेरे पास नहीं है, उसे मैनें बेच दिया।’ उस व्यक्ति को हंसी आ गई। वह बोला, क्या पवित्र ग्रंथ भी कहीं बेचा जाता है?

संत ने कहा, ‘बेशक बेचा जाता है, जो ग्रंथ दूसरों की सेवा करने के लिए अपनी चीजों को बेचने का उपदेश देता है, उसे बेचने में कोई हर्ज नहीं। इस ग्रंथ को बेचने पर जो रकम मिली थी, उससे मैनें जरूरतमंदों की जरूरतें पूरीं कीं। इसमें कोई शक नहीं वह ग्रंथ जिसके पास भी होगा, उसके सद्गुणों का विकास होगा और वह सेवाव्रती और परोपकारी बनेगा।’
