अमेरिका में जब रुजवेल्ट, राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए चुने गए तो उनकी पत्नी ने राष्ट्रपति भवन (व्हाइट हाउस) को अपने पति की रुचि के अनुसार ही व्यवस्थित किया।

जब वे कार्यालय को अच्छी तरह से व्यवस्थित कर चुकीं तो शासकीय कार्यों में भी उनकी पत्नी भी हाथ बंटाने लगीं।

एक दिन अमेरिका के प्रसिद्ध समाचार पत्र के संपादक का फोन आया तो श्रीमती रुजवेल्ट ने फोन उठाया। समाचार पत्र के संपादक ने फोन पर कहा, ‘मैं अमुक व्यक्ति बोल रहा हूं। मुझे राष्ट्रपति की निजी सचिव मिस मीलवीना से बात करनी हैं।’
