कौन ज्यादा मनहूस आप या वो?

एक नगर में एक व्यक्ति इसीलिए मशहूर हो गया कि उसका चेहरा मनहूस था। ऐसा उस नगर में रहने वाले लोग कहते थे। यह बात जब राजा के पास पहुंची तो इस धारणा पर उन्हें विश्वास नहीं हुआ। राजा ने उस व्यक्ति को अपने महल में रख लिया और सुबह उठते ही उस व्यक्ति का मुंह देखा।

इस तरह राजा अपने दैनिक कार्यों में व्यस्त हो गए। व्यस्तता इतनी अधिक थी कि उस दिन राजा भोजन भी न कर सके। शाम होते ही उन्हें पूरा यकीन हो गया कि यह व्यक्ति वाकई में मनहूस है। उन्होंने उस व्यक्ति को फांसी पर चढ़ाने का आदेश दे दिया। राजा के मंत्री को यह बात पता चली तो वह राजा से मिले।

मंत्री ने राजा से कहा, ‘आप इस निर्दोष को दंड क्यों सुना रहे हैं।’ राजा ने कहा, ‘इस मनहूस का चेहरा सुबह देखने के बाद आज सुबह से ही भोजन नसीब नहीं हुआ।’ मंत्री ने कहा, ‘क्षमा करें महाराज! इस व्यक्ति ने भी सबसे पहले आपका मुंह देखा और शाम को उसे मृत्युदंड सुनाया गया।’

अब आप ही तय करें कि कौन ज्यादा मनहूस आप या वो? राजा को मंत्री की बात समझ आ गई और उस व्यक्ति को मृत्यु दंड नहीं दिया गया और ससम्मान पूर्वक विदा किया गया।
