इन्होंने ऐसा क्यों कहा कि ऐसी शिक्षा किस काम की

एक बार खलीफा हारून-अल-रशीद बगदाद शहर का मुआएना करने निकले। रास्ते में उन्हें एक आलीशान इमारत दिखाई दी, जिस पर ‘मदरसा अब्बासिया’ की तख्ती लगी हुई थी। बादशाह ने मंत्री से पूछा, ‘हमारे शहजादे अमीन और मामून इसी मदरसे में तालीम पाते हैं ‘न’ ?’ मंत्री ने कहा, ‘जी हां’।

खलीफा घोड़े से उतरे और मदरसे में प्रवेश किया। तब उन्हें सफेद दाड़ीवाला एक बुजुर्ग हाथ-मुंह धोता दिखाई दिया। वह उस मदरसे का उस्ताद था। हाथ-मुंह धोने के बाद उसने बादशाह को सलाम किया। सलामी का जवाब देकर खलीफा बोले, हम आपके मदरसे का मुआयना करने आए थे, लेकिन हमें यह देखकर बड़ा अफसोस हुआ कि यहां पूरी तालीम नहीं दी जाती है।

उस्ताद डरते हुए बोला, गुस्ताखी माफ हो हुजूर मुझसे क्या गलती हो गई? खलीफा ने कहा, जब आप मुंह-हाथ धो रहे थे, तब हमारे शहजादे चुपचाप खड़े थे। दरअसल उस्ताद की जगह बहुत ऊंची होती है, और उसकी खिदमत करना हर शार्गिद का फर्ज है। लेकिन हम देखते हैं कि खहजादे चुपचाफ खड़े थे। उनको चाहिए था कि वे आपको पानी लाकर दें आपके पैरों पर डालें। मालूम होता है आपने उनको यह शिक्षा नहीं दी है?

यह सुन कर उस्ताद हैरान हो गए और शहजादे अमीन और मामून शर्म से पानी-पानी सिर झुकाकर खड़े हुए थे।
