एक गांव में एक पंडित जी रहते थे। किसी गांव में जाकर एक बार वो कथा सुना रहे थे। प्रसंग में श्रीकृष्ण जी के ऐश्वर्य जीवन और उनके विलक्षण आभूषणों का वर्णन का पाठ चल रहा था। वहां कई श्रोता पंडित जी की कथा सुन रहे थे।

उनमें से एक डाकू भी था। जब पंडित जी घर जाने लगे तो डाकू भी उनके पीछे चल पड़ा। उसने पंडित जी से कहा, ‘आप जिस गोपाल की बात कर रहे थे वह कहां रहता है। मुझे गोपाल के गहने चाहिए। जिनका वर्णन आपने अभी-अभी कथा के दरम्यान किया।’

पंडितजी समझ गए कि यह डाकू है। उन्होंने अपनी गठरी उसके सिर पर रख दी और बोले, ‘में तुम्हें गोपाल का पात जरूर बताउंगा।’ पंडितजी ने डाकू को से कहा, ‘गोपाल मथुरा, वृंदावन में रहते हैं।’ डाकू पंडितजी का शुक्रिया अदा कर वहां की ओर चला गया।

उसने वहां बहुंचकर गोपाल को खोजा लेकिन वहां गोपाल नहीं मिले। तभी उसने देखा एक सुंदर सा बालाक गायों को घांस खिला रहा है। डाकू उनके पास गया। उन्हें देख, डाकू मोहित हो गया। वह उस ग्वाले के रूप में श्रीकृष्ण से बोला, ‘मैं इसी तरह आपको रोज देखना चाहता हूं। इस तरह वह डाकू मरने के बाद परमधाम को प्राप्त हुआ।’

संक्षेप में
