देशहित के लिए इकन्नी भी है जरूरी

बात देहरादून की है। जब महात्मा गांधी हरिजन कोष के लिए धन एकत्रित करने के लिए एक सभा में पहुंचे। सभा का आयोजन महिलाओं ने किया था। उन्होंने दो हजार रुपये के थैली भी गांधीजी को भेंट स्वरूप दी। किसी ने आभूषण तो किसी ने कुछ और धन हरिजन कोष के लिए दिया।

चारों तरफ शोर था। उस शोर में बस एक आवाज अलग सुनाई दे रही थी, तो वो थी गांधीजी की। तभी गांधी जी की नजर एक महिला पर गई, जो हाथ में इक्न्नी (इक्न्नी यानी एक पैसा यह मुद्रा दशकों पहले चलती थी) थी।

गांधी जी के पास वह पहुंची। तब बापू ने कहा, ‘क्या तुम पैर भी स्पर्श करोगी?’ उसने सहमति जताई। तब गांधी जी ने कहा, ‘में इसके लिए एक और इकन्नी लूंगा।’ उस महिला ने कहा, ‘क्या आप पैर छूने के भी पैसे लेते हो।’ गांधीजी ने हंसते हुए कहा, ‘हां’ लेकिन ये सारा पैसे हरिजन कोष में जाकर देशहित में उपयोग किया जाएगा।

आजादी के समय सभी धर्मों में सहिष्णुता की भावना थी। जो वर्तमान में बहुत कम देखने को मिलती है। यही कारण था कि गांधीजी और उस समय के महापुरुष देश को एकजुट कर पाए और हरिजन कोष जैसे देशहित के कार्यों को प्रगति दी।
