ये है इंसान के पतन का कारण

एक जिज्ञासु ने किसी ज्ञानी व्यक्ति से पूछा, सभी मनुष्यों की बनावट एक जैसी है, फिर उनमें से कुछ पतन के गर्त में गिरकर डूब क्यों जाते हैं ? ज्ञानी ने दूसरे दिन शिष्य को बुलाया और उत्तर बता देने का वचन दिया।

ठीक समय पर दोनों नजदीक के तालाब के किनारे जाने के लिए तैयार थे। ज्ञानी के पास दो कमण्डल थे। उनमें से एक साबुत था। दूसरे के तले में छेद था। ज्ञानी ने दोनों कमण्डल जिज्ञासु को दिखाए।

ज्ञानी व्यक्ति के जिज्ञासु के सामने ही तले वाले कमण्डल को पानी में फेंक दिया। वह तैरता रहा। इसके बाद बिना तले वाले कमण्डल को पानी में फेंका। उसमें पानी भर गया और वह डूब गया।

ज्ञानी ने जिज्ञासु से पूछा कि दोनों कमण्डल की भिन्न-भिन्न परिणति का क्या कारण हैं ? जिज्ञासु ने सहज भाव से बताया कि जिसके तल में छिद्र था वह डूब गया और जिसका तल मजबूत था वह तैरता रहा।

इसी प्रकार मनुष्य में असंयम के दोष होते हैं, बाहर की दुष्प्रवृत्तियां उनमें आ जाती हैं, और उसे डुबो देती हैं। जिज्ञासु समझ गया कि अपने व्यक्तिगत दुर्गुणों से ही मनुष्य संसार की दुष्प्रवृत्तियों की चपेट में आता है और डूब जाता है। जिनमें दोष या छिद्र नहीं है, वे तैरते रहते हैं और पार उतरते हैं।
