ऐसा क्या था बुद्ध के पैर में, एक ज्योतिषी रह गया दंग

आषाढ़ माह की गर्म दोपहर थी। भगवान बुद्ध अपने शिष्यों के साथ भ्रमण पर जा रहे थे। उस रास्ते में कहीं पेड़ भी नहीं थे। चारों तरफ बिखरी थी तो बस रेत ही रेत। रेत पर चलने के कारण तथागत् के पैरों के निशान बनते जा रहे थे।

ये निशान सुंदर थे। तभी अचानक शिष्यों को दूर एक पेड़ दिखाई दिया। सभी ने वहां विश्राम किया। तथागत् और सभी शिष्य उस पेड़ की छांव के नीचे आराम करने लगे। तभी वहां एक ज्योतिषी आए वो उसी रास्ते से अपने घर जा रहे थे।

उन्होंने रेत पर बुद्ध के पैरों के निशान देखे। वह उन्हें देख रहा था और उसे कुछ भी समझ नहीं आ रहा था। उसने अपने जीवन में ऐसे पदचिन्ह नहीं देखे थे। ज्योतिषी ने सोचा शायद यह पदचिन्ह किसी चक्रवर्ती सम्राट के हो सकते हैं। लेकिन सामने जब उसने बुद्ध को देखा तो उसे यकीन नहीं हुआ। क्योंकि यह पद चिन्ह एक संन्यासी व्यक्ति के थे।

बुद्ध के चेहरे पर एक चमकती कांति थी। ज्‍योतिषी ने हाथ जोड़कर निवेदन किया कि आपके पैरों में जो पद्म है, वह अति दुर्लभ है, हजारों साल में कभी किसी भाग्यशाली में देखने को मिलता है। हमारी ज्‍योतिष विद्या कहती है कि आपको चक्रवर्ती सम्राट होना चाहिए, परंतु आप तो…?

भगवान बुद्ध हंसे और कहा, ‘आपका यह ज्‍योतिष काम करता था। अब मैं सब बंधनों से मुक्‍त हो गया हूं।’
