मैं अछूत हूं

जब वैशाली में धम्म प्रचार के लिए गौतम बुद्ध गए तब कुछ सैनिक भागती हुई लड़की का पीछा कर रहे थे। सिपाईयों से बचती हुई वह लड़की एक कुएं के पास खड़ी हो गई। गौतम बुद्ध उस कुएं के पास गए और उस लड़की से बोले, ‘आप स्वयं भी जल पीएं और मुझे भी जल पिलाएं।’

तभी एक सैनिक वहां पहुंचा। गौतम बुद्ध ने उसे रोक दिया। वह लड़की की तरफ देखते हुए बोले, ‘क्या हुआ?’ वह लड़की बोली, ‘मैं अछूत हूं।’ मेरे द्वारा कुएं से पानी निकालने पर यह दूषित हो जाएगा। तथागत ने कहा, ‘तुम्हारे द्वारा कुएं से पानी निकालने से यह दूषित नहीं होगा। तुम कुएं से पानी निकालो।’

तभी वहां वैशाली नरेश भी आ गए। उन्होंने गौतम बुद्ध को नमन कर सोने के बर्तन में गुलाब की सुगंध वाला पानी पेश किया। तथागत ने इसे पीने से मना कर दिया। बालिका ने जब यह देखा तो, उसने तुरंत कुएं से पानी निकाला, स्वयं भी पिया और तथागत को भी जल पिलाया।

पानी पी लेने के बाद उस लड़की ने कहा, मुझे राजा के दरबार में गाने के लिए बुलाया गया। मुझे राजा ने पुरस्कार भी दिया। लेकिन किसी ने मेरे बारे में बताया कि में अछूत कन्या हूं। तो यह सैनिक मुझसे यह पुरस्कार वापिस छीनना चाहते हैं।

यह सुनकर तथागत को अच्छा नहीं लगा। उन्होंने वैशाली नरेश से कहा, ‘राजन्! अछूत यह बालिका नहीं बल्कि आप है। जिस मधुर कंठ से निकले गीत का आनंद उठाकर आपने इसे पुरस्कृत किया। उसे ही आप बंदी बना रहे हैं।’ यह सुनकर नरेश को अपने किए पर बहुत पछतावा हुआ और उन्होंने उस लड़की को सम्मान पूर्वक उसके घर भिजवाया।

इंसान की पहचान उसके कर्मों से होती है। उसकी जाति, धर्म, संप्रदाय या क्षेत्र विशेष से नहीं, जो लोग किसी भी इंसान को जाति, धर्म और संप्रदाय का ताना देकर बुलाते हैं। उनसे बड़ा मूर्ख व्यक्ति कोई हो ही नहीं सकता।

When Vaishali went to Gautam Buddha for preaching the Dhamma, some of the soldiers were chasing the girl running away. The girl was standing near a well while escaping from the capsules. Gautam Buddha went to the well and said to the girl, ‘You also drink water and give me water too.’

Then only a soldier arrived there. Gautam Buddha stopped him. Looking at the girl, she said, ‘What happened?’ The girl said, ‘I am untouchable.’ When I remove water from the well, it will become contaminated. Tathagat said, ‘It will not be contaminated by water from the well by you. You get water from the well. ‘

Only then did the Vaishali King come. He bowed down to Gautam Buddha and presented the fragrant water of rose in the pot of gold. Tathagat refused to drink it. When the girl saw this, she immediately poured water from the well, also watered Piya and Tathagat itself.

After drinking the water, the girl said, I was called to sing in the king’s court. The king also gave me the award. But somebody told me that I am the daughter of the untouchable. So this soldier wants to snatch this award from me.

Tathagata did not like it. He said to the Vaishali king, ‘Rajan! Untouchable is not this girl but you. You have rewarded it by enjoying the song from the melodious throat. You are making him a captive. ‘ Upon hearing this, the king regretted his actions and sent him to his house respectfully.

Humanity is identified by its actions. Not to mention its caste, religion, sect or region, those who call upon any person by giving a taunt of caste, religion and sect. Nobody can be a bigger fool than him.
